Why is Pope Francis' health a major concern?
The Pope was rushed to Rome’s Gemelli Hospital on Friday after experiencing significant chest pain. Doctors later diagnosed him with a complex polymicrobial respiratory tract infection, meaning a combination of viruses, bacteria, and other organisms had affected his lungs. Given that Pope Francis had part of his lung removed decades ago, this infection poses serious risks.
According to the Vatican, his condition remains 'complex,' and medical teams have been adjusting his drug regimen. However, despite the severity of the situation, he has not required supplemental oxygen and continues to read newspapers and work from his hospital room.

Two individuals close to the Pope told Politico that Francis had privately expressed doubts about his survival, stating, «I may not survive this time.» Additionally, Italian Cardinal Angelo Comastri shared his thoughts with broadcaster Rai, saying, «Francis is very calm. His helm is in the hands of the Lord.»
