Alok Jain, who quit Disney Star recently, has joined Viacom18 as President and Head of Colors Hindi and Regional, with an additional mandate to oversee the regional digital content rollout. The hiring comes at a time when Viacom18 is focused on making Colors the top Hindi GEC in the nation. Jain will effectively be Viacom18 CEO for TV business and digital-regional content Kevin Vaz's deputy in the Viacom18 hierarchy.
Viacom18's Chief Content Officer: Hindi Mass Entertainment Manisha Sharma, Head of Hindi Mass Entertainment and Kids TV Network Nina Jalpuria, Head of Bangla, Odia, Tamil, and Gujarati Clusters Rajesh Iyer, and Head of Kannada and Marathi Clusters Ravish Kumar will report to Jain. Vaz sent an internal email to the staff announcing Jain's appointment. At Disney Star, Jain was the head of Star Maa, Star Jalsha, Star Kiran, and Star Suvarna channels.
«This role, as the Head of Colors—Hindi and Regionals—will unlock value and content synergies in a meaningful way for us to gain market leadership and build a healthy business model,» the email from Vaz reads. Vaz claimed that Jain has a track record of successfully leveraging both TV and digital content in those areas to generate sustainable and profitable P&Ls across geographies. An engineering graduate from BIT Delhi and an MBA from ISB, Jain has undertaken diverse roles in strategy and building businesses.
Jain worked in diverse sectors before deciding to enter the media industry, including manufacturing, capital goods, consumer durables, automotive, and technology. «As we set our sights on becoming the No. 1 channel across the country, I am confident Alok will help us drive that success alongside all of you,» Vaz said.
