Himachal Pradesh Congress president Pratibha Singh on Monday ruled out contesting the Lok Sabha elections from Mandi that she currently represents as an MP but indicated that her son and state minister Vikramaditya Singh's candidature is being considered from the same seat.
Her late husband and former five-term CM Virbhandra Singh represented the Mandi seat in the past where he and the Congress had built a solid political base.
The BJP has already fielded actor Kangana Ranaut from the seat.
Responding to media queries on the chances of her or her son contesting from Mandi, Pratibha Singh said, «Being the state Congress president, I want to work in the entire state. If I contest elections, then I will be limited to the Mandi seat...It was the suggestion of party's senior leaders that Vikramaditya is a young face and a youth leader, and has a good connect with the youngsters. The party high command has accepted this and they will give their decision on it soon.» Asked about BJP fielding Ranaut, she further said, «We don't need to comment on what she eats or her personal life. We have to work for development. We will definitely win this seat by fighting on issues.»
