In a post, Tanna questioned the sudden rise of Vir Das and Diljit Dosanjh, writing, «Have you ever wondered why two very, very mediocre artists—Diljit Dosanjh and Vir Das—have suddenly been propped up to global scale fame? They’re suddenly benefiting from liaisons with top celebrities and getting gigs at top global events.» Tanna also mentioned Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau attending one of Diljit’s concerts, calling him a «guy from Punjab» and suggesting that this was part of an agenda to undermine India’s global standing.
Vir Das, known for his candidness, wasted no time in replying. He addressed the conspiracy angle with a dose of humor, stating, «I love conspiracy nuts.» Das went on to refute the claim that he had been «propped up,» saying, «I sell tickets, so does Diljit. I personally pay rental for every venue I book across the world, and go directly to audiences who are kind enough to come see me. I’ve done so for fifteen years.»
Das emphasized that his career and popularity are driven by his audience. «Mediocrity aside, my audience props me up. And when it comes to India and pride, I think my audience is mature enough to know that honest conversations are the highest form of love. Cheers,» he added.
