Delhi Police has heightened security measures in and around the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) headquarters in anticipation of a protest announced by Aam Aadmi Party's (AAP) national convenor and Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal scheduled for Sunday. The police have clarified that the AAP has not sought permission for the demonstration.
The traffic police have also issued an advisory concerning the planned protest outside the BJP office at the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Marg. As a precautionary measure, entry and exit have been restricted at the nearest ITO metro station.
Avoid these roads in Delhi
«In view of the proposed protest by a political party at DDU Marg Delhi, Traffic will remain heavy at DDU Marg, IP Marg, Minto Road and Vikas Marg. DDU marg may be closed for traffic movement between 11 am to 2 pm. Kindly avoid these roads and plan your journey accordingly,» stated the traffic police in a social media post.
A senior police officer highlighted the bolstered security measures around the BJP headquarters, stating, «An adequate number of police personnel has been deployed and the area (around BJP office) has been barricaded.»
Confirming the lack of official permission for the AAP protest, another officer mentioned, «No permission has been given to hold any kind of protest.»
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has also taken precautions by closing the ITO Metro Station, situated near the BJP office, for entry
