According to CTV News, a briefing note was prepared before their conversation, which mentioned that Trump would mostly reopen the Canada-US-Mexico agreement and was unlikely to wait for a formal 2026 review of the continental trade pact, also called CUSMA.
The briefing note pointed out that “economic security will be a front-burner issue for a Republican Administration,” according to the report. The note added that, «It is an issue that transcends economic policy and includes national security,” as per CTV News.

The note advised Trudeau on what to speak with the US president, like saying that he was „looking forward to working together on trade and economic issues, which included CUSMA, protecting pipelines and transmission lines and strengthening supply chains to reduce dependence on hostile states,“ quoted CTV News.
