gun safe has been trending on the X platform (earlier known as Twitter) but for negative reasons. Liberty Safe, the brand has been given the same treatment that Twitterati gave to another brand, Bud Light. It is all a part of a cancel culture that is prevalent on social media.
The Utah-based gun safe manufacturer is not being targeted for its product but for its privacy policies with regards to its customers.
Netizens are canceling Liberty Safe, because it cooperated with the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) and shared user data.
It led to a scandal when Liberty Safe shared the code of a person's safe with the FBI, while claiming to keep its customers' personal information private.
So, Twitter / X was abuzz with comments like, 'Time to Bud Light Liberty Safe!' The hashtag #BudLightLibertySafe also began trending.
The FBI had issued an arrest warrant against Arkansas resident Nathan Hughes. Upon a request from the federal agency, Liberty Safe gave the FBI the access code of Nathan's safe. This is because the case was in connection with people, who were linked to the January 6 riots.
Liberty Safe said in a statement that it had no prior information on the details surrounding the FBI case.
But people are not believing the company and feel it is a breach of trust. They feel that just an arrest warrant does not justify the sharing of personal information.
The boycott Liberty Safe trend is similar to Bud Light that occurred when the beer company sold information of its customers to transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney, whom it collaborated with.
Why did people call to ban Liberty Safe?
