Atal Setu' or the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL), the country's longest sea bridge, the face of Navi Mumbai is changing rather swiftly, as it will shorten travel time between Mumbai and Navi Mumbai to 20 minutes from two hours.
The bridge will also enable connectivity to 'Third Mumbai' or the 'Navi Mumbai Airport Influence Notified Area (NAINA)'.
It is to be noted that at present, the infrastructure projects include MTHL, Navi Mumbai Metro, Navi Mumbai International Airport and NAINA which are unfolding one by one.
NAINA, which is being developed by the City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) is a well-planned city equipped with ultra-modern facilities in an area of 371 sq. km. around the Navi Mumbai International Airport.
The Third Mumbai was announced back in 2013 for preventing the haphazard growth of the upcoming airport area. The upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA), Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT), Mumbai Trans Harbor Link (MTHL) and proposed transport corridors like the Multi Modal Corridor, Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC), and SPUR are set to have a significant impact on NAINA.
In the notification, issued in January, 2013, NAINA comprised total 270 revenue villages from Uran, Panvel, Karjat, Khalapur, and Pen Talukas of Raigad district and Thane Taluka of Thane district of Maharashtra. As per this notification NAINA was approximately spread across 558 km².
However, the project went through a few roadblocks over the years villages were moved to different jurisdictions as per government orders.
Presently, the total number villages as part of this project is 174.
