Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes."
The official release date for "Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes" is May 24, 2024, marking the first installment since Disney acquired 20th Century Fox in 2019. Consequently, it falls under the newly rebranded 20th Century Studios umbrella. Notably, this film is not a reboot; it serves as a direct continuation of the storyline initiated by Matt Reeves' «Apes» trilogy, culminating in «War for the Planet of the Apes» in 2017.
In December 2019, it was first confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter that a new entry in the «Planet of the Apes» franchise was in development, with Wes Ball, known for his work on the «Maze Runner» series, taking the directorial reins. The project progressed despite challenges posed by the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes.
Steve Asbell, President of 20th Century Studios, announced in March 2022 that production was scheduled to commence in late summer or early fall of the same year. Filming officially began at Disney Studios Australia, formerly known as Fox Studios Australia, in October 2022, as reported by Variety. Director Wes Ball wrapped up filming in February 2023.
One of the central characters in "Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes" is Cornelius, the chimpanzee son of Caesar. Actor Owen Teague, renowned for his roles in «It,» «Bloodline,» and «Black Mirror,» will bring this character to life through motion capture technology.
