During the ceremony, Prime Minister Modi personally handed over the award to Drew Hicks, recognising his significant contribution as an international content creator. The audience erupted in laughter when PM Modi playfully requested Hicks to speak in his signature Bhojpuri style. However, Hicks admitted to feeling nervous but expressed his desire to make India proud with his work.
Drew Hicks has gained prominence as a YouTuber and influencer, particularly celebrated for his exceptional command of Hindi and Bhojpuri languages. Through his engaging content on platforms like Instagram and YouTube, Hicks has captivated audiences, amassing nearly 900,000 followers on Instagram alone. His videos, often infused with his unique Bhojpuri accent, have garnered millions of views, catapulting him to social media stardom.
Hicks' connection to India runs deep. He spent a significant part of his childhood in Varanasi, where his father was pursuing studies at Banaras Hindu University. Additionally, his family's involvement in the trade of Mithila painting in Patna further enriched his cultural experiences in Bihar.
