Raphael Varane, the 30-year-old veteran French central defender who also plays for English Premier League football club Manchester United is looking for a move away from the club, as his relationship with Erik Ten Hag, the current club manager, has been reported to be “practically broken down.”
Signs of their relationship being under pressure could be understood when Ten Hag hinted that Varane had to fight for his place in the team as his defensive compatriot Harry McGuire has been performing well on the pitch.
Ten Hag said on Thursday, McGuire “took his chance” when Varane was “absent” due to his injury.
He also added that such “internal competition” is a normality in clubs which have a big stature like Manchester United.
Furthermore, he stated that players have to “seize” their chance when it comes and other players have to fight for their place in the starting 11.
According to reports, Varane’s relationship with Ten Hag broke down after this interview took place.
Varane was born on 25 April 1993 in the city of Lille in France. He started his football career with a local club in Lille called AS Hellemmes. After his impressive performances for the local football club, he caught the eye of acclaimed French league club, RC Lens.
During the same time, he also garnered interest from Lille OSC, the league club from his hometown but he decided to join Rens instead.
At Rens, he started to play for the under-16 team with other notable footballers such as Thorgan Hazard (Belgian national). He won the title with this team.
