Peso Pluma, the singer who played a crucial role in elevating the regional Mexican sound to the top of the pop charts, has secured the title of YouTube's most-viewed artist of the year.
While expressing gratitude, Pluma stated, «I feel humble and grateful that my music has made it to the top spot on YouTube. A huge thank you to my musicians and team, my fans, everyone at YouTube, and all the people who have made this project possible,» as said to The Hollywood Reporter.
Pluma surpassed Bad Bunny and Taylor Swift, who held the fourth and fifth positions on the U.S. list, while the second and third spots were claimed by rappers YoungBoy Never Broke and Drake, respectively.
This year, the 24-year-old artist achieved a global milestone with over 8.5 billion views on YouTube. Two of his tracks, «Ella Baila Sola» featuring Eslabón Armado and the remix of «La Bebe» with Yng Lvcas, secured the third and fourth positions on YouTube's U.S. Top 10 songs of 2023 list.
Notably, «Ella Baila Sola» made history by becoming the first regional Mexican song to enter the Top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 chart, reaching No. 4. The song dominated Billboard's Hot Latin Songs chart, holding the No. 1 spot for 19 weeks and achieving a 21x-platinum certification from RIAA, equivalent to 1.26 million units in sales and streams. Unfortunately, the track was not submitted for consideration at the 2024 Grammy Awards, scheduled to air live on Feb. 4.
