political turmoil in Bangladesh not only toppled the government but also claimed many casualties. Among those who lost their lives in the uprising, was actor Shanto Khan.
The actor and his father Selim Khan perished from mob violence on Monday. Khan Sr was the chairman of Laxmipur Model Union Parishad and a film producer.
Local media reports indicate that Shanto and his father were trying to escape when they encountered a hostile crowd at Forkkabad Bazaar in Balia Union Parishad. According to a Dhaka Tribune article, they fired shots from a pistol in self-defense but were subsequently attacked and beaten to death by another mob near Bagara Bazaar.
The death of Shanto, a rising star in the Tollywood industry, was widely mourned. Actress Koushani Mukhopadhyay, who starred with Shanto in ‘Piya Re,' expressed her sorrow, saying, «I received the distressing news late Monday night and have been troubled ever since. As a senior in the industry, Shanto always showed me great respect and shared his dreams of making a meaningful impact. I hope humanity will prevail and the situation will improve soon.»
Actor Rajatava Dutta also shared his shock with PTI, stating, «I was deeply stunned to learn of Shanto and his father's deaths. We are unaware of the details surrounding their demise. It deeply saddens me to know they were killed. As artists who thrive on creativity, we always yearn for peace and unity.»
