Aditya-L1. Few know exactly why the study of the Sun is so important for people on Earth. One major reason is the harmful impact of the Sun on Earth. Storms on the Sun and flares it emits, if they are directed towards Earth, can cause huge damage.
Major objectives of Aditya-L1 include the study of the physics of solar corona and its heating mechanism, the solar wind acceleration, coupling and dynamics of the solar atmosphere, solar wind distribution and temperature anisotropy, and origin of Coronal Mass Ejections and flares and near-earth space weather. Aditya-L1 will study how storms and flares from the Sun emerge and impact us on Earth and our space activities.
What happened in the Canadian province of Quebec in 1989 is an instructive case. The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the American space agency, has described how disturbances on the Sun disrupted life on Earth.

Launch successful: India's maiden solar probe Aditya-L1 well on its way to the Sun
On March 13, 1989 the entire province of Quebec in Canada suffered an electrical power blackout. Hundreds of blackouts occur in some parts of North America every year. The Quebec Blackout was different, because this one was caused by a solar storm,
