UK Health Security Agency has confirmed an outbreak of more than 1,000 measles cases. This is more than thrice the number of cases registered in 2023. The outbreak of these many cases is in England alone.
This is the data analyzed from Reach’s Data Unit wherein more than 1,000 cases have been reported from different laboratories around the country.

The last case was recorded at Birmingham in October. However, 580 cases have been confirmed ever since in the West Midlands. Data also revealed that clusters have been identified in every region.
The London region has reported 390 confirmed cases, 130 in the East Midlands, 69 in Yorkshire and the Humber, 64 in the North-West, 49 in the East of England and 48 in the North-East.
Birmingham has reported the highest number of cases among the cities at 352. This included 12 cases in the recent past. Other cities have also reported a high number of cases and these include Manchester (123), Leicester (119), Wandsworth (95) and Coventry (91).
Among the various demographic groups, children under 10 have been the worst affected and account for 6 out of 10 cases (62%). Adults over the age of 20 too are affected to some extent (21%).
While the General Practitioners have been mandated to report cases to the UK Health Security Agency, the agency has also reported that low vaccine coverage in certain parts of the country
