Apple appears to be in the development phase of introducing an affordable variant of its premium Apple Watch Ultra, as suggested by leaked FCC renders shared on social media.
The images, posted by @ParrotSWD on X, hint at a possible shift in design elements, featuring a black ceramic back panel reminiscent of earlier Apple Watch models.
The FCC renders show a continued emphasis on a rugged design, similar to the Apple Watch Ultra 2 released earlier this year. Notably, the images reveal a shift in the design of the Action button, now crafted from plastic instead of the original metallic counterpart found on the Apple Watch Ultra 2.
According to @ParrotSWD, «Early Ultras had a black back which looks kinda dope,» highlighting the nod to the aesthetic of previous models.
Speculation arises regarding the nomenclature of this potentially affordable version, considering the design changes. While both the Apple Watch Ultra and Ultra 2 boast of aerospace-grade Titanium cases, the leaked images suggest a deviation with a black ceramic back panel, aligning more closely with earlier Apple Watch Series models.
It remains uncertain whether Apple will officially announce this purported affordable Watch Ultra variant or if the company plans to reposition the existing models to cater to a broader audience.
