The yield on the 10-year Treasury was steady at 4.31 per cent. In Europe, Britain’s FTSE 100 fell less than 0.1 per cent at 7,726.70 points. France’s CAC 40 dropped 0.2 per cent at 8,148.46.
Germany’s DAX lost less than 0.1 per cent at 17,930.38. In Asian stock markets, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index edged up 0.1 per cent at 16,737.12. China's Shanghai Composite rose 1.0 per cent at 3,084.93.
Japan’s Nikkei 225 climbed 2.7 per cent at 39,740.44. Crude oil prices gained on Monday as Ukraine increased its attacks on Russian energy infrastructure. Brent crude oil futures for May delivery rose 62 cents, or 0.7 per cent, at $85.96 a barrel by 1019 GMT.
The April contract for US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude added 70 cents, or 0.9 per cent, at $81.74. Gold prices strengthened after falling to one-week lows on Monday. Spot gold was up 0.2 per cent to $2,159.29 per ounce at 10.08 a.m.
