According to NBC News, the surprising theft actually occurred in the month of February around late evening in Greencastle which is located in Pennsylvania. The Pennsylvania State Police are actually and reportedly investigating the incident which they now believe might be closely linked to the soaring prices of eggs.
Pete & Gerry's Organics has released a latest statement which says that they are working with the law enforcement to investigate the theft. They also added that they are taking the matter extremely seriously and are really committed to resolving it quickly, asserted NBC News.
The theft eventually comes at a time when the egg prices have increased due to the ongoing bird flu outbreak which has led to the culling of millions of chickens. The US Department of Agriculture recently made a forecast that the egg prices will increase an additional 20% this year itself, noted NBC News.
In the month of December, the national average for a dozen eggs reached near about $4.1525 while some eminent experts already attribute the recent price increases to the holiday season and increased demand.
