food lovers and night owls, Zomato has finally rolled out its much-anticipated «Delete Order» feature. This update, which allows users to erase individual orders from their history, addresses pressing privacy concerns and might even rescue relationships strained by those guilty late-night binges.
Deepinder Goyal, the CEO of Zomato, made the exciting announcement on social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter) this past Friday. «For Karan and many others — you can now delete orders from your order history on Zomato. Use it responsibly,» Goyal quipped, giving a nod to the customer whose cheeky request set this whole thing in motion.
The feature’s backstory is as juicy as it all began in 2023 when a user named Karan Singh took to X with a plea that went viral. Singh's post humorously revealed how his inability to delete his order history had led his wife to discover his penchant for late-night snacks. His message was simple yet dramatic: «Bye bye Zomato or make me delete order history.»
Zomato’s initial response to Singh's predicament was as witty as their marketing usually is. They suggested he should order «when the coast is clear.» But the company didn't just stop there. Recognizing the broader appeal and potential PR goldmine, they got to work on a real solution.
Goyal acknowledges the feature wasn’t a quick fix. «It touched multiple systems and microservices,» he explained, noting the extensive effort required to bring it to life. But the wait is over, and the rollout is happening as we speak.
