markets Citi Target Action Strategy show blues How Delhi can learn from Beijing & London to combat air pollution
As a Tsinghua University graduate student in Beijing, I couldn't help but reflect on how the city had faced a similar crisis not too long ago. Its infamous 'airpocalypse' seemed overwhelming. Yet, Beijing transformed its skies from grey to blue, setting a compelling blueprint for reform. Cities like Beijing — and London — have shown that with political will, change is possible. Beijing reduced PM2.5 levels by over 50% between 2013 and 2017. A 3-year action plan, 'Blue Sky War', targeted pollution at its source. Coal consumption was reduced through cleaner natural gas, shutting down coal-fired plants and relocating polluting industries. Stricter emission standards were enforced for vehicles and factories, alongside aggressive EV promotion and public transport subsidies.

Provident Oscar Pride country song Say it with pride: 'Burned in the USA!'
Bribery being what it is in our collective consciousness — a nudge-nudge wink-wink lubricant — the American accusation against one of India's biggest corporate names has provided, along with the standard 'Oh dear' response, the quieter, 'Heh heh, finally, we've made it to the big league!' reaction. The mega-charge joins the more obviously proud ranks of Indian movies like RRR getting Oscar applause and people of our 'mulk' gaining positions of corporate and political power in foreign countries (read: the US).

markets Digital Platform Experts social Traffic Australia takes on social media: Banning kids under 16, setting a global precedent?
Digital Duty of Care' concept in the Online Safety Act will place the onus on digital platforms to proactively keep Australian children safe. In this, could Australia be setting a global standard that is enforceable? This may depend on how it and the rest of the world choose to interpret the role of social media and, more importantly, how they allocate liability for the many deleterious effects that affect its users. For instance, social media claims it doesn't willingly or deliberately amplify certain messages crafted to elicit a harmful response. These platforms would like nothing better than to be likened to a dumb megaphone that occasionally and inexplicably finds itself in the hands of the boy who cried wolf. After all, an agency that operates a traffic light pro bono would also demand protection from liability for traffic accidents near its operating intersection.
