Jim O'Neill came up with the term ‘BRIC’ (Brazil, Russia, India and China) in 2001, little did he know that the acronym would become the groundwork for an ambitious alliance of the world’s highest-potential large economies. That potential is, in a way, now spreading, even as more nations dare to dream beyond the West’s hegemony. The BRICS bloc was born in 2009 as a response to the changing global economic landscape, aiming to promote cooperation on common challenges.

NEW DELHI (Reuters) — Leaders of the world's richest and most powerful countries will attend the two-day G20 Summit in India's capital New Delhi starting September 9.

The domestic stock markets underperformed the world markets in 2023 despite hitting lifetime highs in July. Currently China contributes 70 per cent of the BRICS' GDP, which will decline to 62 per cent, while India chips in with 13 per cent now that will inch down to 12 per cent.

G20 Summit, Northern Railways has decided to cancel and divert over 200 passenger trains temporarily from September 8 to 11 here, a notification stated on Saturday. It unites three top African economies—Egypt, South Africa, and Ethiopia—and South America's key players, Brazil, and Argentina. Strikingly, this coalition bridges the divide between ideological rivals: Sunni-majority Saudi Arabia and Shia-majority Iran. With a diverse mix of economic, energy, and political dynamics, this alignment reflects a complex global landscape where nations with disparate interests find common ground, underscoring the intricate interconnectedness shaping today's international relations. Saudi Arabia, China, Russia, India, and other nations have rapidly bolstered trade and relations.

The new members will become part of BRICS effective January 1, 2024. The acronym BRICS was originally coined in 2001 by Goldman Sachs economists led by Jim O'Neill.
