Shami makes quiet comeback as Bengal struggle vs MP
Mohammed Shami returned wicket-less from his 10 overs in a subdued comeback to competitive cricket after 360 days as Bengal struggled in their Ranji Trophy Group C game against Madhya Pradesh here on Wednesday. Electing to field first, MP were 103/1 at stumps after bowling out Bengal for 228 in their first innings. The visitors need an outright win to keep their slim quarterfinal hopes alive. Bengal's attack is depleted by injuries to Ishan Porel and Rishav Vivek, while Mukesh Kumar and Akash Deep are on national duty. All eyes are now on Shami to not only prove his fitness but also rejuvenate his state team's campaign. Bowling on the Holkar Stadium green-top, the 34-year-old Shami, who was sidelined with an Achilles tendon injury on his left leg for which he underwent a surgery, returned figures of 10-1-34-0.

Ricky Ponting, Justin Langer could skip Perth Test commentary gig due to IPL auction in Jeddah
Ricky Ponting and his longtime teammate Justin Langer could potentially miss out commentating on the opening Test against India at Perth, starting November 22, due to commitments with their respective IPL teams for the mega auctions in Saudi Arabia's Jeddah on November 24 and 25. According to Australian newspaper 'The Age', «Channel Seven could be without Ricky Ponting and Justin Langer for parts of the Perth Test due to a clash of commitments, and Australia may lose a vital backroom coach for the start of the blockbuster Border-Gavaskar series in a potential stand-off with Indian cricket.» Ponting, who has been appointed the head coach of Punjab Kings and Langer, who will be in his second season with Lucknow Super Giants, could be present at the IPL auction table for their respective franchises along with Australian team assistant coach Daniel Vettori, who is in-charge of Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Baku climate meet returns to big question: Who pays?
Late evening on Wednesday, countries approached Zaheer Fakir of the UAE and Fiona Gilbert of Australia, co-chairs appointed by the COP29 UN Climate Conference presidency to resolve technical differences and finalise a draft text for ministerial consideration, to «streamline» a 34-page draft that had been prepared overnight after the developing country bloc G77 and China rejected a seven-page framework that the co-chairs had prepared earlier. With this all options are back on the table. Developing countries are clear that the new climate finance goal, the successor to the $100 billion plan, must be about rich industrialised countries providing the funding. Developing countries said any text that proposes shifting the burden of providing climate finance to them was unacceptable.

Googling about this cat breed can lead to your computer getting hacked!
Cybersecurity specialists caution that a fresh wave of cyberattacks is now focused on individuals with highly niche interests. As reported by the cybersecurity company SOPHOS, attackers have employed an advanced array of tools to manipulate the results of a single, targeted Google search. Experts are advising that entering this unique six-word phrase in a search engine could significantly increase your vulnerability to hacking. Although the risk may be low, you’re only in potential danger if you live in Australia and have a curiosity about exotic cats. According to SOPHOS, hackers are specifically targeting anyone who searches the phrase, “Are Bengal Cats legal in Australia?” Searching for these keywords may lead cat lovers into a trap, where clicking links exposes them to harmful malware. Once infected, attackers can access sensitive data, take control of the system, or demand ransom for stolen information.

Sanjay Manjrekar blasts Gambhir, says 'Keep him away from media, he doesn't have...'
Gautam Gambhir, former India cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar on Monday said the India head coach lacks the «right demeanour and words» while interacting with the press and urged the BCCI to keep him away from the media duties. Manjrekar's comments came hours after Gambhir addressed media in pre-departure press conference ahead of the five-Test Border Gavaskar Trophy against Australia. Gambhir, known to be blunt, responded to questions on struggle of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma in run up to the Border Gavaskar Trophy, Ricky Ponting's observations on Kohli's form, Indian's team's impending transition and the team combination for the Australia tour. «Just watched Gambhir in the press conference. May be wise for @BCCI to keep him away from such duties, let him work behind the scenes,» Manjrekar wrote on 'X'.
