India record highest-ever team total in Women''s Test cricket
highest team total in women's Test cricket on day two of the one-off Test against South Africa, surpassing the previous best of 575/9 set by Australia. Australia had posted the total in Perth this February but India achieved the new record when Richa Ghosh hammered a four in the opening ball of the 109th over bowled by Annerie Dercksen. Much of the credit for the feat goes to Indian openers — Shafali Verma (205) and Smriti Mandhana (149) — who shared an iconic stand of 292 — the highest opening partnership in women's cricket. It has also been well aided by Jemimah Rodrigues (55) along with skipper Harmanpreet Kaur and Richa, who are currently unbeaten past their respective half-centuries.

T20 World Cup on course to become the most important ICC event, reveals player survey
player survey has revealed that the T20 World Cup is closing the gap in the race to become the «most important» ICC event to players around the world, marking a shift from the dominance of the ODI World Cup. According to a survey conducted by the World Cricketers Association (WCA), formerly FICA, an overwhelming 85 percent of players viewed the 50-over World Cup as the most important in 2019, compared to 15 percent for the T20 World Cup. In 2024 however, those figures have changed with 50 percent of the players considering the ODI showpiece as the most important and 35 percent favouring its T20 equivalent. The ongoing edition of the T20 World Cup, jointly hosted by the USA and West Indies, will conclude with the title clash between India and South Africa in Barbados on Saturday.

A dream run continues, another ends: South Africa demolish Afghanistan to reach maiden World Cup final
WHAT HAPPENED? A clinical South Africa skittled Afghanistan for 56 on their way to a comprehensive 9-wicket victory in the first semi-final in Trinidad on Wednesday, sending the Proteas into their first ever final. It was a first victory in eight short-format World Cup semi-finals going back to 1992 for South Africa. South Africa ripped through the Afghan batting in less than 12 overs to restrict their shellshocked opponents to their lowest ever score in T20Is. Fazalhaq Farooqi bowled Quinton de Kock early, but Reeza Hendricks and skipper Aiden Markram got the Proteas to their target without further losses inside 9 overs. It was a demoralising end to Afghanistan’s fantastic run in the tournament where they beat New Zealand, Australia and Bangladesh to reach their maiden semifinal.
