Uzbekistan keen to join INSTC for full implementation of BIT with India
Uzbekistan & Turkmenistan express interest to join International North South Transport Corridor (INSTC) to trade with India as the viable route to the Indian Ocean Region ahead of the BRICS Summit in Kazan that would among other matters lay emphasis on inclusive connectivity corridors. Uzbekistan in particular is keen to harness the full potential of INSTC as well as the Chabahar Port in the backdrop of the Bilateral Investment Treaty (BIT) signed in Tashkent on Friday during the visit of Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. Pakistan signs contract to sell JF-17 fighter jets to Azerbaijan
Pakistan's military said on Thursday that the country has signed a contract to sell JF-17 Block III fighter jets to Azerbaijan. The aircraft is co-produced by the Pakistan Aeronautical Complex and developed jointly with China, with whom Islamabad has grown increasingly close as ties with traditional military ally the United States have weakened over the last few years. The military did not provide the cost or quantity of jets agreed to, but said in a statement that the sale was part of Islamabad's efforts to enhance defence cooperation with friendly countries and bolster the air power capabilities of Azerbaijan.

COP hosts set to increase combined oil and gas production by 33% by 2035, says report
Azerbaijan, the UAE, and Brazil — the past, current, and next hosts of the UN climate conference — are set to increase their combined oil and gas production by 33 per cent by 2035, contradicting their commitments to lead global efforts for stronger climate action, according to a new analysis. The analysis, compiled by the US-based research and advocacy group Oil Change International using industry data, shows that the UAE and Brazil are on track to increase production by 37 per cent and 38 per cent, respectively, by 2035. Azerbaijan, which will host COP29 in Baku in November, is projected to see a four per cent rise in production. At the last UN climate summit in Dubai in November-December 2023, leaders made a historic commitment to transition away from fossil fuels, triple renewable energy capacity and double energy efficiency by 2030. Oil Change International said that the ongoing expansion of oil and gas investments undermines these commitments.

Quick deliveries top agenda for Indian energy hunters
Subscribe to enjoy similar stories. State-run energy companies on the prowl for foreign assets will focus on projects that are already pumping oil and gas or are about to do so, two people aware of the plans said, after the endless wait for supplies from countries where India has made energy investments in the past prompts a rethink. Though it is far cheaper to invest in foreign exploration and production (E&P) projects in their early stages, the timeline to production is lengthy, something India cannot afford given its galloping energy needs, the people said on the condition of anonymity.

Indian men crush Azerbaijan, women smell victory against Kazakhstan
D Gukesh and Arjun Erigaise, the Indian men scored the necessary 2.5 points out of possible three against Azerbaijan in the fifth round of the 45th Chess Olympiad here on Sunday. It seems like Gukesh and Arjun can do nothing wrong in this Olympiad as they overpowered Aydin Sulemanli and Rauf Mamedov respectively with their white pieces in quick time. Praggnanandhaa played another draw on board two but that only ensured an Indian victory irrespective of the result of Vidit Gujrathi who was playing against Shakhriyar Mamedyarov. After scoring the fifth victory on the trot, the Indian men maintained a clean slate on ten points and they were joined by Vietnam who continued with their impressive show and downed Poland 2.5-1.5.
