Bad writing hurts, if you don't like it
Tom Waits hit the nail on the head, and stubbed many toes in the process, when he rightly said, 'The world is a hellish place, and bad writing is destroying the quality of our suffering.' Actually, he hits two nail-heads: (1) Amrit Kaal notwithstanding, beyond your window lies Chaosistan, and (2) under such conditions, how one suffers matters greatly. But what Waits skips is that one man's bad writing can be another man's uplifting prose. So, for a few of you, this column may seem turgid prose told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.

Putin to visit UAE, Saudi Arabia this week: Russian news outlet
Vladimir Putin will visit the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia this week, Russian news outlet Shot reported on Monday, citing Putin's aide Yury Ushakov. The reported visit comes after the OPEC+ group of oil producers, which includes all three countries, agreed last Thursday to voluntary output cuts totalling about 2.2 million barrels a day. Markets reacted with scepticism to the deal because of doubts about whether the voluntary cuts would be fully implemented. Oil prices fell 2% last week after the announcement, and declined further on Monday. Putin has rarely travelled abroad in recent years, and mostly to states of the former Soviet Union.

OpenAI wasn’t alone: Money-versus-mission clashes afflict others too
OpenAI’s power brokers seem to have decided that the quickest fix for the dysfunction on display for the past few weeks is to borrow a page from America Inc’s playbook by adding some establishment figures to its board. The company’s initial new lineup of directors includes some of the archetypes that make its boardroom look much more like everyone else’s: A well-regarded technology executive in the form of Bret Taylor, Salesforce Inc’s former co-chief executive officer, and a bigwig economist in Larry Summers, a former US Treasury secretary.

Govt mulls substantially expanding NCLAT strength to speed up insolvency, M&A appeals
NCLAT) to 20 (including the chairman) from the currently-sanctioned 12, a person aware of details told ET. The idea is to expedite the disposal of appeals against adjudicating authorities in cases ranging from insolvency, mergers and acquisitions to antitrust matters at a time when the economy is expanding at a fast pace, highlighting the indispensability of a much robust dispute resolution system, he said. The proposal comes on top of another plan to bolster the number of members at the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) to 163 (including its president) from the sanctioned 63, aimed at faster clearances of such cases, he added. “A final decision on these proposals will be taken by the Cabinet. A Cabinet note for this purpose has been floated by the ministry of corporate affairs (MCA),” said the person quoted above. At present, apart from chairman Ashok Bhushan, the NCLAT has two judicial members and six technical ones, according to its website.

It makes sense for FIIs to jump in now rather than wait for something else to happen: Sanjeev Prasad
Sanjeev Prasad, MD & Co-Head, Kotak Institutional Equities, says “everybody likes the long-term story of India. People want to put more money to work into India, so now that whatever little uncertainty was there with respect to election results and the probability of a correction in the market has obviously gone down dramatically, probably it makes sense to jump in now rather than wait for something else to happen which may result in a break in the market and give an opportunity for investors to come in. ” Will the bulls continue to smile or is it time to hold back your horses and say that this is a euphoria and euphoria really makes money? Well, it depends on which part of the market you are looking at. If you are looking at the very largecaps or the megacaps, the valuations are still pretty reasonable and that is a part of the market where we have been highlighting investors to focus incrementally over the last two, three months now. The financial sector space has been a bit underperformer. The valuations are very reasonable there and even attractive in some cases. Now, if you look at the rest of the market beyond the megacaps and the financial space, there is not much value left over there. The consumption names, pharmaceutical, IT are probably fully valued to fairly richly valued, I would say. So the scope of making money from here seems to be somewhat limited a bit about what our short term euphoria will be there and where the stock price may go in the short term.
