MHA directs CAPFs to adopt BSF's 'beehives on border fence' model across the country
Union home ministry has directed all central paramilitary and allied forces to replicate a 'beehives on border fence' beekeeping model initiated by a BSF unit in West Bengal to boost employment opportunities for the locals and create a goodwill with them for strengthening security. Official sources told PTI that the decision was made during a meeting on «scientific beekeeping and honey mission» that was chaired by Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla at his office at North Block here in April. The model devised and implemented by the 32nd battalion of the Border Security Force (BSF) deployed to guard the India-Bangladesh international border in West Bengal's Nadia district was «lauded» during the meeting and a direction was issued to all the central armed police forces (CAPFs) to adopt it in their respective areas of responsibility, a senior CAPF officer said. The other border guarding forces, such as the Sashastra Seema Bal (Nepal and Bhutan borders) and the Indo Tibetan Border Police (China LAC), CAPFs like the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) and other forces like Assam Rifles, the National Security Guard (NSG) and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) do not have fences to guard but the model can be utilised by them as per their nature of duties, the officer said.

'IHCL aiming for double-digit growth in FY25'
Tata group-backed Indian Hotels Company (IHCL) is aiming for double-digit topline growth this fiscal and plans to open 25-30 hotels. It will also launch hotels overseas but its primary target will remain India's thriving hospitality industry. «Our commitment extends to maintaining zero net debt while accumulating cash reserves, positioning us strategically for future investments in cash deployment, capex, M&A, or strategic reserves,» Puneet Chhatwal, MD, IHCL, told ET in an interview. He said while FY25 will be a 'breakthrough year' for the company's international expansion, the primary focus will remain on the Indian subcontinent. «We're expanding internationally with a target of at least three hotels outside of India, with contracts already signed, including two in Bhutan, and ongoing discussions for locations such as Dubai, London, Frankfurt, and others. We have two hotels under construction in Dhaka and several negotiations underway in the Indian peninsula, Sri Lanka, and nearby regions,» he said.

BJP bickerings in Alipurduars raise TMC hopes, CAA to remain saffron trump card
BJP in the Alipurduars Lok Sabha seat, so far considered a saffron citadel, the TMC seems to be banking on the saffron disarray to secure its second victory in the constituency after a decade. Riding on the promise of CAA implementation and RSS groundwork among local tribals, the BJP swept the region by winning this ST-reserved seat in 2019 and bagged all seven assembly constituencies under its fold in 2021, including two MLA seats from adjacent districts. Much seems to have changed in the meanwhile, with internal bickerings gaining momentum within the BJP's local unit after the party decided to replace its sitting MP and Union minister John Barla, with its local MLA and chief whip in the West Bengal assembly, Manoj Tigga, as candidate for the seat.
