Urgent need to address USD 4 tn financing gap to accelerate progress on SDGs: FM Nirmala Sitharaman
Nirmala Sitharaman on Saturday said that inadequate access to developmental finance is hindering developing economies from achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and underscored the urgent need to address this USD 4 trillion annual financing gap. Addressing the third Voice of Global South Summit virtually, Sitharaman said that recent reports reveal that the implementation of many SDGs in developing economies is stagnating, with some indicators even regressing. The SDG financing gap is estimated to be USD 4 trillion annually for developing countries, she said. Observing that the global South is affected by global uncertainties, she said one in four developing countries will be poorer by the end of this year than they were before the pandemic as per a recent World Bank report.

What caused a plane to fall from the sky in Brazil?
investigators Saturday began analyzing the black boxes from a Sao Paulo-bound flight to try to understand why the passenger plane fell from 17,000 feet Friday, in a crash that killed all 62 on board. But to aviation experts around the world who watched videos showing the 89-foot plane spinning slowly as it plummeted before crashing almost directly on its belly, the question of what had happened was simple to answer: The plane had stalled. In other words, the plane's wings had lost the lift needed to keep the aircraft aloft, causing it to stop flying and start falling.

Brazilian aerospace company Embraer in talks with govt for tie up but seeks market access for its jets
Embraer is in talks with the government and top conglomerates to set up a manufacturing unit in India, a top executive said. However, progress will depend on the company’s jets gaining access to India’s large and rapidly expanding domestic market, dominated by Airbus and Boeing planes. India is among countries such as China, Turkey, Japan and Saudi Arabia with which the firm is discussing a possible partnership, said Arjan Meijer, CEO and president of Embraer’s commercial aviation business. “We have been vocal for the last couple of years that we are looking for a partner,” Meijer told ET. “We have always said we want to cooperate, but we also want to bring our products into the market.”
