Steroid side effect? Viral Brazilian fitness enthusiast who joined body building to lose weight dies at 19 due to heart attack
Brazil, Matheus Pavlak, who rose to fame for his dramatic transformation from obesity, was found dead at his home on Sunday afternoon, reportedly due to a heart attack. His sudden death has ignited speculation about the potential role of anabolic steroids in the incident. Matheus Pavlak, a resident of Santa Catarina, Brazil, had been a prominent figure in the bodybuilding community. In the span of just five years, he had transformed his body, participating regularly in competitions and earning accolades, such as placing fourth and sixth in regional contests and winning the U23 contest in 2023. He was known as «Mr. Blumenau» in his hometown. TMZ and other media outlets reported that Pavlak’s death may be linked to the use of anabolic steroids, given his muscular physique at such a young age. This has led to public debate on social media about whether performance-enhancing drugs contributed to his heart attack.

Brazilian influencer who spent $1 million to look like Kim Kardashian says butt lift surgery left her infertile
Jennifer Pamplona, a Brazilian influencer who has spent over $1 million on cosmetic procedures to look like Kim Kardashian, is now sounding the alarm on the dangers of butt fillers. Known for her extensive surgery history, Pamplona has recently shared a stark warning about the risks associated with butt lift fillers, particularly those containing polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA). Pamplona, a self-proclaimed “surgery addict,” revealed that her use of PMMA, a material commonly used in butt lift fillers, has severely impacted her health. Although her infertility cannot be directly linked to PMMA, complications from the filler are believed to be associated with either improper application or an adverse reaction. According to the New York Post, PMMA can migrate from the injection site to other areas, including the pelvic region, potentially affecting reproductive organ function. Pamplona recounted a troubling experience a decade ago when PMMA spread from her buttocks to her reproductive organs during a bioplasty procedure. This migration has contributed to her current fertility issues. “I always dreamed of being a mother. Unfortunately, I now find myself unable to fulfil this dream due to the complications caused by PMMA,” she told Need To Know.

Starlink backtracks, complies with order blocking X in Brazil
Musk's satellite broadband firm, Starlink, on Tuesday said that it is complying with Brazil's top court order to block access to social media platform X in the country, a day after informing the country's regulator it would not obey the order. Starlink had emerged as a fresh battleground between Musk and Brazil, as top court judge Alexandre de Moraes ordered the freeze of the company's accounts for possible use to pay fines owed by X, which is also owned by Musk. «Regardless of the illegal treatment of Starlink in freezing of our assets, we are complying with the order to block access to X in Brazil,» Starlink, which has more than 200,000 customers in the Latin American nation, said in a post on X.

Volatility hits robusta coffee as prices slump from recent high
Robusta coffee slid in London, pulling back from last week’s high, amid a US holiday that contributed to volatile prices. Futures had soared to the highest since the 1970s on concerns about tighter supplies out of Vietnam and Brazil due to unfavorable weather. Prices topped $5,000 a ton on Friday, pushing robusta’s relative-strength index toward overbought territory. The commodity slipped as much as 5.5% on Monday. “We are in a low stock environment, which guarantees volatility,” said Carlos Mera, an analyst at Rabobank. Traders also need to consider other factors, such as shipping disruptions around the Red Sea, congestion in Brazilian ports and the European Union’s incoming deforestation rules, he said.

Alexandre de Moraes: All about the judge who banned Elon Musk's X erstwhile Twitter in Brazil
Elon Musk, who is now fighting to maintain his social media platform X in one of the biggest democracies in the world, made the disparaging comparison to the Harry Potter character. Don’t think 20-30% return is a birthright; time to go long on gold and neutral weight on equity: Nilesh Shah
Nilesh Shah, MD, Kotak AMC, says investors can’t go to Russia because of Ukraine; to China because of Taiwan; to South Africa because of social strife, or to Brazil because of the communist government. In the emerging market, there are very limited choices and India is one bright option. So with Triveni Sangam of flows, fundamentals, and sentiment, the downside is limited but expect volatility over the next 3, 6, 9, and 12 months. Shah also says this is the time when you should be long duration because rates are going to be cut. You should be long gold because central banks are buying gold. And you should be neutral weight to equity with some bias towards large caps. Sensex and Nifty are once again hitting record highs every day, even when there are worries about not-so-great Q1 earnings. Where do you think we are headed? Nilesh Shah: If we take a 5-year, 10-year view, no doubt the only direction is up. The economy will do well and markets will do well. If you are taking a 3, 6, 9, or 12-month view, I have no idea where we are headed. On one side, we believe the correction in the market will be shallow and short-term because there is Triveni Sangam of fundamentals, flows, and sentiment.

Why Brazil’s Supreme Court blocked X and what it means for the platform
Brazil's Supreme Court has ordered the suspension of X, formerly known as Twitter, after a protracted legal battle with the social media platform's owner, Elon Musk. The Court mandated this suspension due to the company's failure to appoint a new legal representative in Brazil within the deadline set by Supreme Court Judge Alexandre de Moraes. The decision affects approximately 40 million Brazilian users who will lose access to the platform within 24 hours, making it the latest addition to the list of countries that have banned or suspended the social media service. The legal confrontation between X and Brazilian authorities began in April when Judge de Moraes ordered the suspension of multiple X accounts accused of spreading disinformation, a directive with which the company did not comply. This defiance led to the current suspension order. The judge also imposed a fine of 50,000 reais (Rs. 7.47 lakh) for any attempts to circumvent the block, such as using a VPN. In response to the decision, Elon Musk stated, «Free speech is the bedrock of democracy, and an unelected pseudo-judge in Brazil is destroying it for political purposes.»

Brazil watchdog moves to block access to Elon Musk's X after court order
Brazil's telecommunications regulator said on Friday it was proceeding to suspend access to Elon Musk's X social network in the country in compliance with an order from a judge who has been locked in a months-long feud with the billionaire investor. The move followed the expiry of a court-imposed deadline for the popular social media platform to name a legal representative in Brazil. Musk has argued that Supreme Court justice Alexandre de Moraes is trying to enforce unjustified censorship, while the judge has insisted that social media needs hate speech regulations.
