It added that scores of junta soldiers, including some officers, had been captured and disarmed. The junta has not commented. TNLA Brigadier-General Tar Bhone Kyaw confirmed Saturday that the MNDAA had taken Laukkai. «It is their land, they got it back now,» he told AFP.

They stated: «The incursion of communal Meitei state forces into Moreh and the surrounding tribal areas during the ethnic conflict involving the two communities is clearly an attempt by the chief minister to drive out tribals from their homes using state machinery, and will never be tolerated by the Kuki-Zo people.» «We urge the central government to remove all Meitei state forces, especially commandos, from Moreh and the surrounding tribal-majority settlements,» they said.

The Rajkhowa-led ULFA faction had begun unconditional talks with the central government in 2011, despite strong opposition from the hardline faction led by Paresh Baruah, who is believed to be residing at a place along the China-Myanmar border.
