India-Pakistan T20 World Cup match: ISIS-linked outfit threatens attack, New York on high alert
New York will enhance security measures for the upcoming T20 Cricket World Cup in June, particularly for the India-Pakistan match, following reports of potential threats. Governor Kathy Hochul announced on X that her team is collaborating with federal and local law enforcement to ensure attendee safety, stating that there is «no credible threat at this time.» «While there is no credible threat at this time, I’ve directed @nyspolice to elevate security measures & we’ll continue to monitor as the event nears,» the governor said. The India-Pakistan game scheduled for June 9 at Eisenhower Park stadium in Nassau County, New York. The T20 Cricket World Cup will be held from June 1-29. Matches will be played in nine stadiums across the West Indies and the United States. In the inaugural match, hosts United States take on Canada. David Rosenberg: These 14 stocks could benefit from Canada's immigration boom
Even with record low fertility and birth rates, Canada is undergoing a nearly unprecedented population boom — well in excess of three per cent annualized growth. The reason is clear: an unrivalled immigration surge that hit an inflow of almost 1.3 million people from other countries around the world in 2023. Without this, the civilian population would be in decline.

Are behavioural nudges overrated or just badly designed?
Last month, an article in Harvard Business Review (HBR) ‘Will Your Nudge Have a Lasting Impact?’ by Evan Polman and Sam J. Maglio questioned the effectiveness of nudges used in policymaking and corporate strategy. Ever since the book Nudge by Richard Thaler and Cass Sunstein was published in 2008, behavioural nudges, or interventions designed to subtly steer individuals towards desired behaviours, has become a favourite tool of policymakers around the world.

Canada Study Permit: Justin Trudeau govt drops police clearance mandate for international students, temporary residents
Hindustan Times reported on Tuesday.Responding to queries in Parliament by Indo-Canadian MP Arpan Khanna, Immigration Minister Marc Miller clarified, “I have never said such certificates are required for temporary residents,’ the daily reported. The Canadian immigration minister indicated that verification is done mainly through biometric data, such as fingerprints, which are cross-checked on law enforcement databases internationally. As for the police certificates from the country of origin, the HT quoted Miller as saying, “We do not, as a routine matter, require them for temporary residents."However, police certificates from abroad may occasionally be requested on a case-by-case basis if further scrutiny is necessary.“They may be required if an officer decides to do so as part of a cascading security screening," he added later. The minister's clarification comes amid debates about security checks for temporary residents, including international students, following recent criminal cases involving past visitors. It is important to note that at least two of the four persons arrested in relation to the killing of pro-Khalistan terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar had reached Canada in that category.
