How wearing lipstick turned a woman duffedar's job nightmarish
S B Madhavi, the first woman duffedar in the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC), has found herself at the centre of a controversy after she was transferred from the mayor's office to the far-off Manali zone. At 50, Madhavi, who had been ceremonially engaged to accompany Chennai mayor R Priya, claims she was shunted out for wearing lipstick, disobeying a direct order not to do so, TOI has reported. The situation escalated after Madhavi received a memo on August 6 from the mayor's personal assistant, Siva Sankar, citing “dereliction of duty, not coming to work during working hours, and disobeying orders of seniors” as reasons for her transfer. In her response, Madhavi questioned the accusations and specifically addressed the issue of her lipstick.

Rishabh Pant is electric, as a bowler there is little room for error: Nathan Lyon
Nathan Lyon feels there is no room for error when bowling to Rishabh Pant, adding that the young India wicketkeeper-batter has a superabundance of talent to tame the best attack in the world. Pant will be an integral part of the Indian batting lineup during the upcoming five-Test Border-Gavaskar series beginning in Perth on November 22. The 26-year-old Pant recently returned to Test cricket after nearly 21 months following a near-fatal car crash in December 2022, and smashed a century against Bangladesh in the first Test at Chennai. «You're bowling against someone like Rishabh Pant, who is electric. He's got all the skills in the world,» Lyon, who has snared 530 Test scalps and will be expected to play a key role in the series against India, told Star Sports.

Malinga bana hua hai, Yorker pe Yorker de raha hai: Virat Kohli's chat with Shakib Al Hasan goes viral; Here is video
Virat Kohli had a brief but eventful innings during the second innings of the first Test between India and Bangladesh on September 20 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. After scoring just six runs in the first innings, Kohli entered the crease looking to regain his form. He raced to 17 runs off 37 balls, but his dismissal was overshadowed by his decision not to use the DRS despite edging a delivery. During his time at the crease, Kohli engaged in a lighthearted exchange with veteran Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan, who was brought into the bowling attack by captain Najmul Hossain Shanto shortly after Kohli arrived. Shakib’s unexpected strategy of bowling a series of yorkers caught everyone off guard, including Kohli himself. The two former captains shared a laugh, with Kohli playfully comparing Shakib's bowling style to that of Lasith Malinga. «Tu Malinga bana hua hai, Yorker pe Yorker de raha hai (You have become Malinga, bowling yorker after yorker),» Kohli said to Shakib in a comment that was captured on the stump-mic and immediately went viral on social media.

Three Muslim organisations support Waqf Bill at Parliament panel meet
NDA and opposition members, three Muslim organisations, including an RSS-linked outfit, on Friday supported the proposed amendments to the Waqf law before a parliamentary panel, sources said. When the three Muslim organisations — All India Sufi Sajjadanashin Council, RSS-linked Muslim Rashtriya Manch and NGO Bharat First — made their presentations separately before the Joint Committee on Waqf (Amendment) Bill, some opposition members sought to find flaws in their claims. Shiv Sena member in the Committee Naresh Mhaske is learnt to have told opposition members that they should be open to listening to the point of view of the other side, a suggestion that led to a brief exchange of words between the NDA and opposition. Some opposition members also wondered whether the Sufi Shah Malang sect comprising fakirs, who appeared before the Committee, formed part of the Muslim community.

'No work, no pay,' Samsung warns striking Indian workers as row escalates
Samsung Electronics has warned its striking workers in southern India they will not receive wages if they continue protesting and also face the risk of termination, a company email showed, escalating a dispute between the company and its employees. Hundreds of Samsung workers have since Sept. 9 disrupted work and protested in a nearby makeshift tent close to its home appliances factory near the city of Chennai. They have been demanding higher wages and recognition of a union at the plant, which contributes roughly a third of Samsung's annual India revenue of $12 billion. Samsung last week sued the protesting union in a district court, seeking a temporary injunction to restrain sloganeering and making speeches in and around the factory. But the judge on Thursday only called for a swift resolution.
