Jio AirFiber: Reliance Jio launches fixed wireless service in 8 cities
Reliance Jio on Tuesday launched its fixed wireless access (FWA) device — Jio AirFiber — in eight cities — Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Mumbai and Pune, just over a month after rival Bharti Airtel introduced its own device in two cities, as both telcos make initial attempts at monetising their 5G services. «Our extensive fiber-to-the-home service JioFiber, already serves over 10 million customers...With JioAirFiber, we are expanding our addressable market to rapidly cover every home in our country with similar quality of service,» Akash Ambani, chairman of Reliance Jio, said in a statement. A fixed wireless device uses radio frequencies instead of cables/fibres to provide fixed broadband access, using technologies like 5G. Simply put, these are portable broadband devices, much like dongles but with better coverage and speeds. The Jio AirFiber service has been launched with multiple plans ranging from 30 Mbps speeds to 1000 Mbps speeds, all available in blocks of six months and 12 months, the telco said in the statement. The plans are available in two buckets — Jio AirFiber and Jio AirFiber Max.

Auto sector to see 70-80 per cent demand surge in apprenticeship: report
Apprenticeship. The stipend is expected to range from Rs 12,500 to Rs 13,300 per month. One of the significant factor contributing to this growth is the extension of the Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme for the automotive sector. Originally scheduled to run from 2022-23 to 2027-28, this scheme's extension promises to usher in a new era of growth and increased employment opportunities within the sector. The data has been gathered after a careful assessment of industry relations and an in-depth understanding of the apprenticeship market's demand dynamics. The anticipated boom in apprentice recruitment can be largely attributed to the sector's robust performance, which is influenced by macroeconomic factors and positive industry sentiments across all its segments. To meet the demands of the industry, upskilling and re-skilling initiatives have become a very important factor. Due to the dynamic nature of the industry, pursuing degree-linked apprenticeships in the automotive sector are emerging as a solution, offering access to sought-after roles such as Automotive Service Technicians, Assembly Line Operators, and Shopfloor Engineers. This is being done to align with technological transformations such as EVs and connected-car technologies. This trend is evident in various regions, including the states of Gujarat, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh, and metropolitan cities like Pune, Chennai, and Bengaluru.

NCLAT says IBC not a recovery mechanism; dismisses insolvency plea against United Telecoms
United Telecoms Ltd filed by one of its operational creditors. This is the second such observation from the Chennai bench of the insolvency appellate tribunal this month, after declining to entertain the petition from operational creditors. Earlier, it had refused to entertain an insolvency petition against Wipro Ltd after observing that the bankruptcy law cannot be used as a means to recover debt against solvent companies. Again, while rejecting a plea against United Telecoms last week, a two-member bench comprising justices M Venugopal and Shreesha Merla said: «Time and again, the apex court in a catena of judgments held that the IBC is not a 'recovery mechanism'. The appellate tribunal upheld the order by the Bengaluru bench of the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT), which had dismissed the plea moved by an operational creditor claiming a default of Rs 8.46 crore against United Telecoms Ltd, which is an ICT and social infrastructure company. According to the petitioner, it had entered into a settlement agreement with the company on its request and had signed an MoU (memorandum of understanding).

Director Atlee says 'Jawan' was his 'love letter' to Shah Rukh Khan
Love was in the air when 'Jawan' director Atlee and actor Vijay Sethupathi joined Shah Rukh Khan at an event here to celebrate the film's success and went on to proclaim their admiration for the Bollywood superstar. The Tamil filmmaker, who made his Hindi cinema debut with the blockbuster film, said if he had to describe 'Jawan', he would call it «a love letter of mine to Mr SRK». Sethupathi's Kaali may have been the chief antagonist in the film, but the actor was full of praise for the director, the team and especially for Shah Rukh. He said he got many calls from people in Chennai, saying they could not get tickets for the first day, first show of the movie. «They love him so much but then it is not a surprise for me because SRK the name is enough.

Deepika Padukone reveals she will always be ready to star in an SRK film irrespective of the length of her role
Deepika Padukone on Friday said she never thought about the length of her role in Shah Rukh Khan-starrer 'Jawan' as she has a lot of love for the actor and would always be there for him. Deepika, who made her debut opposite Shah Rukh in 'Om Shanti Om' in 2007 and has collaborated on films like 'Chennai Express', 'Happy New Year' and 'Pathaan', had an extended cameo as Aishwarya Rathore in the Atlee directorial, which has become a blockbuster at the ticket window, raising close to Rs 700 crore in worldwide gross. At the film's success press conference, SRK joked that he and Atlee «fooled» Padukone into believing that she had a cameo in the film when she was one of the main characters. «Deepika is feeling the most awkward, I will tell you why, because she feels, „main to dosti me chhota so role karne aa gayi thi', but between me and Atlee, we fooled her and shot a full length movie with her. “When she saw the film she was like, 'Oh I am one of the main characters'… but thank you Deepika from the bottom of our heart for being part of this film,» he said, calling the actress «a family». Padukone said the team of 'Jawan' approached her with the part when she was shooting for Nag Ashwin's 'Project K', now titled 'Kalki 2898 AD', in Hyderabad. «They narrated the whole story to me and told me this very important part of Aishwarya and for me, it was not about the length of the role.

Wait time in India sky-high, US consulate opens up special visa window for Indians in Frankfurt
visa interviews in India, the US consulate in Frankfurt has set aside specific interview appointments for Indian applicants. According to the State Department's website, the wait times for B1/B2 visa interview appointments in India have reached staggering durations, with 441 days in Hyderabad, 486 days in Chennai, 526 days in Delhi, 571 days in Mumbai, and 607 days in Kolkata. In stark contrast, the wait time in Frankfurt is a mere three days. To alleviate the backlog and cater to the increasing demand, Indians were granted the option to apply for visas at US consulates outside India, such as in Bangkok. Over the past year, various measures have been implemented to reduce the extensive waiting period, which had peaked at nearly three years last winter. Despite these efforts, applicants have encountered issues with a new scheduling portal for non-immigrant visa interviews in India. A US embassy official has told TOI that attempts are being made to resolve these issues «as quickly as possible». During recent discussions between the US embassy and Indian authorities, three key issues were addressed: visa wait times, technical problems with the scheduling portal, and concerns related to student visas.
