Badaun double murder case, Uttar Pradesh Police today arrested Javed, the second accused, from Bareilly on Thursday. As per reports, Javed surrendered before the police. Delhi Traffic Police has issued a warning to commuters, advising them against using the Pragati Maidan tunnel due to ongoing maintenance work starting March 19. The tunnel is scheduled to be closed every day from midnight to 6 am until April 18, with additional full-day closures on March 24, March 31, and April 7. The repair and maintenance operations are being overseen by the ITPO project division of the Public Works Department (PWD). According to PWD officials, the closure primarily aims to address persistent issues of water leakage within the tunnel structure. «Usually, the tunnel is closed after midnight for routine maintenance work. But we needed more time to carry out repair work to fix the problems of leakage inside,» stated an official involved in the maintenance efforts.

Aircraft lessor Wilmington Trust SP Services has moved NCLAT, filing an appeal against an earlier order of NCLT, which had dismissed its insolvency plea against low-cost carrier SpiceJet. Wilmington Trust's petition has been listed for hearing on Thursday before a bench headed by the Chairperson Justice Ashok Bhushan of the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT). Earlier on January 29, the Delhi-based bench of the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) dismissed the insolvency petition filed by Wilmington Trust SP Services against SpiceJet. Wilmington, the aircraft lessor based in Dublin, Ireland had moved the insolvency plea against SpiceJet in June 2023 over unpaid dues.

Delhi Police has intensified checking at the national capital's borders to prevent the illegal supply of liquor and the movement of unaccounted for cash after the Model Code of Conduct for the Lok Sabha elections came into effect, officials said on Wednesday. Police in the border areas have been directed to keep an eye on the movement of suspicious vehicles, a senior officer said. The Election Commission on Saturday announced several strategies to deal with the four-fold challenge of the 4Ms — «muscle, money, misinformation and Model Code (of Conduct) violations». In one of the first actions, the Delhi Police on Tuesday arrested a man identified as Ajay (22), a resident of Haryana's Sonipat, for allegedly illegally transporting 20 cartons of liquor. The Delhi Transport Infrastructure Development Corporation (DTIDC) has floated a tender and invited bidders to suggest digital solutions to check whether the vehicles coming to the petrol pumps have a valid Pollution Under Control Certificate (PUCC). The estimated cost of the project is Rs 6 crore. «The bidder must possess the capability to deliver a digital solution aimed at mitigating pollution within the city of Delhi. This involves implementing an application that integrates with existing cameras situated at petrol pumps,» said an official. Explaining how the system will work, the official said it will be designed to scan the licence plates of the vehicles upon entry to a petrol pump.

Begusarai as the world's most polluted city reflected "Western bias", the Bihar State Pollution Control Board (BSPCB) said on Wednesday and questioned the methodology used in the entire exercise. Speaking to PTI, BSPCB Chairman Devendra Kumar Shukla questioned why only one pollutant, PM 2.5, was taken into consideration for analysing the air quality of Begusarai and other cities in India. «When we talk about air quality, it should be a comprehensive analysis, taking into account all pollutants — PM 2.5, PM 10 (particulate matter less than 10 microns), nitrogen oxide, sulphur dioxide, ozone, carbon monoxide, ammonia and lead,» he said. «I will not call it a comprehensive analysis of air quality at all. There is a Western bias in the report,» he added.
