BRS leader K Kavitha taken into custody, say reports
Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS) MLC K Kavitha was taken into custody on Friday evening. The development came hours after Income Tax Department (I-T) and Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials conducted searches at her Hyderabad residence, according to media reports. Earlier on Friday, at least 10 officers from both agencies from New Delhi had conducted searches in the presence of Kavitha and her husband D Anil Kumar. It was not clear if the action is linked to the now-scrapped Delhi excise policy linked case of the central agency in which the ED has questioned the BRS MLC and daughter of former Telangana chief minister Chandrashekar Rao, PTI reported citing official sources. The ED had claimed Kavitha was linked to a «South Group» lobby of liquor traders who were trying to play a larger role under the now scrapped Delhi excise policy for 2021-22.

Govt moves High Court challenging Arbitral Award to Vedanta
government on Thursday moved the Delhi High Court, challenging a foreign arbitration award won by Vedanta against the former's demand for a higher payout from its Rajasthan oil and gas fields. The dispute between the Directorate of Hydrocarbons and Vedanta — Cairn arose due to incorrect cost recovery and non-allocation of common costs that allegedly had a huge «adverse financial implication on the Profit Oil/Gas» payable to the government. As of May 14, 2020 (excluding interest), the government's share of profits dues of the company of $1.66 billion were short paid by $1.16 billion, representing 70% of the total amount due, according to the government.

Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury questions fairness of procedure of selecting ECs
Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, the sole Opposition representative in the search panel that selected the two election commissioners, expressed his dissent by pointing out "procedural lapses" in the selection process. He has questioned the rationale and motive of the government in providing him a list of «212 names» as probable candidates when he arrived at Wednesday midnight in Delhi and then handing him over a shortlist of «six names» just «10 minutes before the search committee meeting» on Thursday noon. In his note of dissent, Chowdhury is learnt to have questioned the rationale and fairness of the composition of the search committee by saying it ensured «no decisive say» for the sole Opposition nominee in the matter of selection as the overwhelming majority of the government representatives in the panel made the ruling side's preference «a fait accompli». During the meeting, Chowdhury is also learnt to have briefly mentioned his disappointment about the government not including the Chief Justice of India in the search committee. He reportedly pointed out that no reason has been provided for the abrupt resignation of election commissioner Arun Goel a few days ago and also the delay in filling up the second vacancy of the EC, caused by the retirement of the incumbent last month.

OMC, tyre, paint, among other stocks in focus on March 15 after govt lifts 2-year long freeze on petrol, diesel prices
₹2 per litre across all states. The fuel price reduction comes one week after cooking gas or LPG (liquified petroleum gas) prices were slashed by ₹100 per cylinder ahead of the schedule announcement of Lok Sabha elections 2024. State-run oil refiners such as Indian Oil Corp (IOC), Bharat Petroleum Corp Ltd (BPCL), and Hindustan Petroleum Corp Ltd (HPCL) and oil explorers such as Oil and Natural Gas Corp (ONGC), Oil India, and others may witness a slide in their respective stocks as the reduction in retail rates passed on to consumers may hurt the refining margins and inventories of the companies.
