Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai inspects Narela-Singhu border to check GRAP IV implementation
Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai inspected the Narela-Singhu border to see the implementation of stage IV of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP), which enforces a ban on the operation of Delhi-registered BS-IV and below diesel-operated medium goods vehicles (MGVs) and heavy goods vehicles (HGVs), except for essential services. Speaking to media persons, Gopal Rai highlighted the AAP government's efforts to mitigate air pollution in the city. «The AAP government is continuously working to mitigate the level of pollution in Delhi. Entry has been banned for those vehicles that cause pollution, as Grap 4 is implemented. Today, we have received several complaints that vehicles are being allowed to enter Delhi without proper checking; hence I am here to inspect the same,» Gopal Rai said.

A Festschrift for Delhi's prime chronicler
Narayani Gupta gathered where else but at the India International Centre for the release of a Festschrift on her. It is a measure of the calibre of the audience that most of them knew the meaning of that Germanic word so beloved of academics and applauded appreciatively as the book was unveiled. For the uninitiated, a Festschrift, literally 'celebration writing', is a collection of essays published in honour of a scholar and presented to them at a landmark event such as retirement or birthday. As the contributors are usually that scholar's peers and friends, such volumes are also called liber amicorum or 'book of friends'. It inevitably has a virtual avatar nowadays too called Webfestschrift, and if published after a scholar's death the compilation is called a Gedenkschrift. The Germanic overtone notwithstanding, Festschrifts are fairly commonplace in academic circles around the world, although initially there were more of these for luminaries in the field of sciences rather than humanities. Now such epistolary toasts are routinely brought out on poets and legal eagles (in India, Keki Daruwala and Nani Palkhivala come to mind), administrators and conservationists, economists and librarians, diplomats and theologians, even journalists.

How Delhi can learn from Beijing & London to combat air pollution
As a Tsinghua University graduate student in Beijing, I couldn't help but reflect on how the city had faced a similar crisis not too long ago. Its infamous 'airpocalypse' seemed overwhelming. Yet, Beijing transformed its skies from grey to blue, setting a compelling blueprint for reform. Cities like Beijing — and London — have shown that with political will, change is possible. Beijing reduced PM2.5 levels by over 50% between 2013 and 2017. A 3-year action plan, 'Blue Sky War', targeted pollution at its source. Coal consumption was reduced through cleaner natural gas, shutting down coal-fired plants and relocating polluting industries. Stricter emission standards were enforced for vehicles and factories, alongside aggressive EV promotion and public transport subsidies.

Kejriwal tendered his resignation in September and said he would seek a «certificate of honesty» from the public in light of the corruption charges he faced. Excise policy scam: Supreme Court agrees to hear Sisodia's pleas seeking relaxation of bail conditions
Supreme Court on Friday agreed to hear AAP leader Manish Sisodia's pleas seeking relaxation of bail conditions which require him to report to the investigating officer on every Monday and Thursday in the corruption and money laundering cases related to Delhi excise policy. A bench of Justices B R Gavai and K V Viswanathan issued notices to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) seeking their responses on Sisodia's applications. On August 9, the apex court had granted him bail in the corruption and money laundering cases linked to the alleged Delhi excise policy scam, saying long incarceration for 17 months without trial had deprived him of his right to speedy trial.
