Customs catches Afghan diplomat with 25 kg gold at Mumbai airport concealed in legging, jacket, belt, knee cap
gold smuggling under the Customs Act, 1962, has been filed. The gold has been confiscated, a TOI report stated. According to sources, Wardak was not arrested because she has diplomatic immunity. According to the law, if the value of smuggled gold exceeds Rs 1 crore, the suspect is arrested and subjected to criminal prosecution. Sources mentioned that Wardak possessed a diplomatic passport issued by the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan. Responding to a query sent by TOI, Wardak said: “I was surprised and concerned by the accusations and need to look into this matter further. India’s crypto regulations can do with a HODL strategy
crypto asset market progresses, India finds itself at a pivotal juncture. There’s an opportunity to chart a course that delicately balances innovation in this nascent but super exciting sector, together with risk management, while drawing invaluable insights from the regulatory experiences of other nations. At the recent G20 Summit, India emerged as a leading advocate for standardizing regulatory frameworks for crypto assets on a global scale, championing international collaboration to address the inherently cross-border nature of crypto assets and the imperative to mitigate the macro-financial implications associated with them. Countries worldwide are making significant strides. Markets in Crypto-assets (MiCA), the EU-wide regulation, will come into effect this year. MiCA, once put into action, will have a broad scope of application within the crypto asset ecosystem. Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC), the leading global financial center in the Middle East, Africa, and South Asia (MEASA) region, enacted the world’s first Digital Assets Law. The UK government, which has a stated goal of being a global leader in Web3, has confirmed plans to regulate crypto assets through formal legislation in 2024 (It has said it intends to bring many crypto asset activities under the same regulations that govern banks and other financial services firms).

'IHCL aiming for double-digit growth in FY25'
Tata group-backed Indian Hotels Company (IHCL) is aiming for double-digit topline growth this fiscal and plans to open 25-30 hotels. It will also launch hotels overseas but its primary target will remain India's thriving hospitality industry. «Our commitment extends to maintaining zero net debt while accumulating cash reserves, positioning us strategically for future investments in cash deployment, capex, M&A, or strategic reserves,» Puneet Chhatwal, MD, IHCL, told ET in an interview. He said while FY25 will be a 'breakthrough year' for the company's international expansion, the primary focus will remain on the Indian subcontinent. «We're expanding internationally with a target of at least three hotels outside of India, with contracts already signed, including two in Bhutan, and ongoing discussions for locations such as Dubai, London, Frankfurt, and others. We have two hotels under construction in Dhaka and several negotiations underway in the Indian peninsula, Sri Lanka, and nearby regions,» he said.
