YouTuber JiDion faces wrath of NBA, gets banned from all events. Details here
JiDion recently found himself banned from all NBA-related events following his latest high-profile sports prank at a WNBA game. JiDion has a history of getting into trouble during athletic competitions, such as being kicked out of the US Open for getting a haircut while sitting courtside. However, this time, his prank went a step further, resulting in his expulsion from the game entirely. In a video uploaded on July 19, JiDion can be seen trolling players and fans at a WNBA game between the Minnesota Lynx and the Dallas Wings. During the match, a ball flew into the crowd near JiDion, who seized the opportunity to attempt a jump shot. Unfortunately for him, his impromptu stunt got him ejected from the game, with an arena staff member warning him about shooting the ball during the match. In another yet similar incident, JiDion attended another WNBA game in Los Angeles, where he took a nap on some courtside seats. Later, this second prank led to his eviction from the game and an extended ban from all NBA-related events. Now, his fans have flooded the WNBA's official Instagram account with sleeping emojis, referencing his video titled «Don't Sleep on the WNBA!»

Trimmed trees outside LA studio become flashpoint for striking Hollywood writers and actors
Universal Studios has become a hot spot in the face-off between Hollywood studios and striking screenwriters and actors. Some members of the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists and Writers Guild of America unions — along with sympathetic local politicians — think the studio purposely pruned the trees in an effort to remove a source of shade for workers picketing under the hot Southern California sun. They gathered regardless on Wednesday, with one woman wearing a green wreath on her head and holding a sign depicting a full, untrimmed tree under the words «Never Forget».

LeBron James Makes Jersey Number Change: Pays Tribute to Bill Russell by Returning to No. 23
LeBron James has announced that he will be changing his jersey number once again. The Los Angeles Lakers star will be returning to No. 23, the number he wore during his first three seasons with the team. His agent, Rich Paul, confirmed the decision, stating that it was LeBron's choice. The NBA had previously announced last August that it would retire the No. 6 league-wide to honor Bill Russell, the renowned Boston Celtics legend and civil rights advocate who won 11 NBA championships. However, players who were already wearing No. 6, including LeBron James, were allowed to continue doing so. Nevertheless, James has decided to make the change back to No. 23 out of respect for Bill Russell, according to his agent. LeBron James had hinted to ESPN in September that he was considering a jersey number change after the 2022-23 season. He expressed that wearing No. 6 for another season held significant personal value to him. However, he has ultimately decided to return to No. 23, the number he originally wore when he entered the league as the first overall pick for the Cleveland Cavaliers in the 2003 NBA draft.

Without Hollywood, what happens to Los Angeles?
Los Angeles County has 88 cities. Ten million people. Two hundred-plus languages spoken. And a nine-letter sign that, for much of the world, defines the entire region: HOLLYWOOD. Los Angeles has long been regarded as the global «company town» for show business, and as a rare actors strike upended the signature industry this week, the potential for cascading economic impacts across Southern California has emerged as a critical local issue. But economists disagree on just how extensively the simultaneous actors and writers strikes will be felt. Even by the most generous estimates, Hollywood has never supported more than about 5% of employment in a region where many more people work in trade, health care, government and even Southern California's diminished manufacturing sector. Yet Hollywood pervades Los Angeles life in ways as big as a movie backdrop or as small as a street detour on some awards night. For many, the ceased productions and darkened premieres are not just a threat to the flow of dollars to restaurants and retailers that cater to film crews, but also a blow to the region's cultural heart. «To the extent that Hollywood defines America's idea of where I live, Hollywood's troubles become my troubles,» said D.J. Waldie, a cultural historian in Southern California. «When Hollywood stops, a great many things stop here, and not just a few studios.»

Hollywood on brink of biggest shutdown. Protesting actors, writers to join picketing lines today
Emily Blunt, Rami Malek, Matt Damon walked out of their upcoming movie ‘Oppenheimer’ premiere midway in London, several other actors will join picketing lines in New York and Los Angeles on Friday. The double strike threatens to shut down the small number of productions that continued shooting in the two months since screenwriters stopped working. Many actors made a show of solidarity on the writers' picket lines, including Fran Drescher, the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists president and former star of “The Nanny." The union's 65,000-member actors' branch will now formally join them as fellow strikers.

Cricket arrives in US as Indian Americans, billionaire replicate IPL
Anurag Jain has loved cricket his entire life, but after learning how much players made he ditched his dream of making a career of it and ultimately went into business. These days he’s the managing partner of Perot Jain, a venture capital firm he co-founded with Texas billionaire Ross Perot Jr. If things go to plan, Jain could have a far greater impact on the game than he ever could with a bat and ball. Jain is part-owner with Perot of the Texas Super Kings, a team created this year based in Dallas. On Thursday evening, Jain’s team, which is also backed by India’s Chennai Super Kings, will host the Los Angeles Knight Riders in Major League Cricket’s first game in the US.
