Russia’s Putin Moves to Dismantle Wagner Paramilitary Group
Russian President Vladimir Putin said the Wagner paramilitary group led by Yevgeny Prigozhin “simply doesn’t exist," as he moves to dismantle an organization that was critical to Moscow’s war effort in Ukraine before it turned on the Russian establishment in a short-lived mutiny last month. Putin’s comments, in an interview published late Thursday in Russian newspaper Kommersant, came days after Russia’s Defense Ministry said it had taken control of Wagner tanks, artillery and guns after its involvement in the biggest challenge to Putin in his 23 years in power.

MI6 double agent Kim Philby is back in ‘A Spy Among Friends'
Kim Philby and his MI6 colleague Nicholas Elliot are back, this time on television. ‘A Spy Among Friends’ is coming to television. The cold war drama is full of intrigue and suspense. It is based on the real story to a great extent, but its elements are changed. Kim Philby was the most notorious Soviet double agent who despite being an MI6 agent, spied on Britain for years and sent secrets to Moscow for years. When his cover was blown up in 1963 and he was exposed, Philby fled to Moscow where he stayed till his death 25 years later. Nicholas Elliot was another MI6 agent who was a close friend of Philby. He was asked to secure the confession of the double agent after his cover was blown. Based on the bestseller by Ben McIntyre, the six-episode series depicts romance, thrills, treachery, and betrayal. It shows the delicate relationship between the two spies. It is still debated in the inner circle of MI6. Alex Carey has adapted ‘A Spy Among Friends’. Guy Pearce has portrayed Kim Philby whereas Damian Lewis has played Nicholas Elliot. Maxwell Martin plays the invented character Lily Thomas. ‘A Spy Among Friends’ can be watched on ITVX. It was shown on July 9 on ITV1.

Discounts on Russian crude oil to India plunge to $4, delivery charges remain opaque
Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL), Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd and HPCL-Mittal Energy Ltd as well as private refiners Reliance Industries Ltd and Nayara Energy Ltd continue to negotiate deals with Russia separately. The discounts could have been higher if state-controlled units, who account for roughly 60% of the 2 million barrels per day of Russian oil flowing into India, negotiated together.

Russia oil discount to India shrinks to $4, delivery charges remain opaque
Russia crude oil that India gorged on since the Ukraine war, have plunged but the shipping rates charged by Russia-arranged entities continues to remain 'opaque' and higher than normal, sources said. Russia bills Indian refiners at a price shade less than the USD 60 per barrel price cap imposed by the West but charges anything between USD 11 to USD 19 per barrel, twice the normal rate, for delivery from the Baltic and Black Sea to the west coast, three sources with knowledge of the matter said.

Russian fighter jets harass American drones over Syria, says US military
Russian fighter jets have “harassed” American drones over Syria for the third day in a row this week, the U.S. military said. Tension between Russian and U.S. troops is not uncommon in Syria as both countries conduct patrols on the ground as well as overflights. Syria’s 12-year conflict has left half a million people dead and over 1 million wounded. The U.S. military said in a statement that Friday’s encounter lasted for about two hours during which three MQ-9 drones were “once again harassed” by Russian fighter aircraft while flying over Syria.

Russian fighter jets ‘harassing’ American MQ-9 drones over Syria: US
Russian and Syrian militaries were engaged in a six-day joint military training which ended on Monday, Rear Admiral Oleg Gurinov, head of the Russian Reconciliation Center for Syria, said earlier this week.
