Arif Abubakar Shaikh, also known as Arif Bhaijaan, the brother-in-law of fugitive gangster Chhota Shakeel and an accused in a terror-funding case, passed away on Friday evening at Mumbai's J J Hospital. Unity Small Finance Bank has entered into an agreement to purchase 70,000 sq ft of office space in a proposed commercial tower in Mumbai’s Santacruz suburb for more than Rs 227 crore. The deal for outright purchase of the space, instead of the current trend of office leasing, indicates the bank’s long-term commitment and growth plans. The bank is purchasing the entire second to fifth floors, as well as parts of the upper basement and the ground floor of Unity Towers from the project’s developer, Intercon Constructions (India). As part of the deal, the bank will get exclusive access to 120 car parking slots in the project.

Real estate sector saw debt sanctions of ₹9.63 lakh crore during 2018-23 and there is an opportunity of debt financing of ₹14 lakh crore in the next three years, according to a report by JLL India and Propstack. Daibiru Corporation, a subsidiary of the Japanese business conglomerate Mitsui O.S.K. Lines has invested Rs 1,000 crore in an under-construction office complex in Gurgaon, being developed by DLF in a joint venture with the global investment and development firm Hines, according to three persons familiar with the deal. Hines, which holds a 33% stake in the joint venture, facilitated the exit of the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA) by bringing in Daibiru as an investor. Both companies have created Daibiru Hines Trust at GIFT City, Gujarat, and plan to invest in more commercial assets across the country.
