Don’t worry why L&T is available at attractive valuations; it is a good entry point: Dipan Mehta
Dipan Mehta, Director, Elixir Equities, says “one should never analyse L&T on a consolidated basis because due to the software business and the NBFC, you will never realise that value. L&T is never going to sell off those stakes and unlock value for its shareholders and those companies are already listed. So, I do not want to double count them when I am doing the valuation calculation for L&T. If you start to value only the EPC business and the unlisted subsidiaries, then it is a slightly reasonable valuation.” We have been talking quite extensively about the real estate space as well as a whole, the kind of promising opportunity given that there are a few formidable players in New Delhi, Gurgaon, etc. Is there a ripe opportunity still at play when it comes to real estate? At corrections, why not? And, although a lot of the real estate stocks are quoting at or around their net asset value, the fact is that the opportunities are keeping on growing for the sector and these companies and I have seen quarter after quarter because of either joint development agreements or because of price increases or acquisition of land bank, these companies have started to report even higher and higher net asset value or the net realisable value of these companies.

Paddy purchase declines as farmers hold back in run-up to elections
NEW DELHI : Government procurement of paddy has fallen as farmers hold back on selling their crop, hoping for sops ahead of Assembly elections in five states this year. The union government, through the federal Food Corporation of India (FCI) and state agencies, has procured 14.7 million tonnes (mt) of paddy in the ongoing kharif marketing season that started on 1 October, as against 15.9 million tonnes in the corresponding period last year. The slow progress is due to farmers holding back their crops in the hope of bonuses or special announcements ahead of the five state assembly elections from 7 November this year, a government official said.

Air India and Akasa Air CEOs exchange barbs over poaching of pilots
New Delhi: The chief executives of Air India and Akasa Air have privately exchanged barbs over the poaching of pilots, with the latter accusing its bigger rival of rule violations, provoking a reply that collusion to curb job switching can breach competition law. The exchange, detailed in a Sept. 21 letter seen by Reuters, spotlights growing competition in India's aviation market, as a strong rebound in air travel after the pandemic, coupled with a flurry of orders for new aircraft, lead to a shortage of pilots.

Jonathan Trott lends method to Afghan madness in incredible World Cup story
Afghanistan's superlative display has been the story of the 2023 World Cup and former England batsman Jonathan Trott has been its mastermind, lending a certain method to the madness of the rag-tag bunch of players at his disposal. Afghanistan have long been perceived as a team built around their enviable bunch of crafty spinners, while their batting lineup was nearly entirely made of reckless sloggers. They managed one win in their World Cup debut in 2015 and none in 2019, which only strengthened the perception that the 50-overs format was probably not their cup of tea. It took three giant-killing acts by Hashmatullah Shahidi and his men to turn that notion on its head and Afghanistan now have outright chances of making the semi-finals of the 10-team tournament. They stunned holders England in New Delhi and proved it was no fluke with comprehensive victories against 1992 winners Pakistan and 1996 champions Sri Lanka to move to the fifth place in the points table. The clinical manner of their chase and the comprehensive nature of their victories belie their stature as a so-called 'minnow' of the game and their fans have demanded their wins should no longer be termed as 'upset'. Trott, who took over the coaching reins in July, said it was the result of some serious hard work to get their batting and basics right for the tournament. «The way that we train, the way we think about our cricket, certainly with batting,… we're starting to see also the confidence in the players, in their own ability,» Trott, who played 52 tests between 2009-2015, said after Monday's victory against Sri Lanka. «There's such an amount of talent, and we've just given a bit of structure, a bit of a gameplan, understanding what makes them the
