BRICS summit in Johannesburg set to discuss admitting new members, India on Thursday dismissed as «baseless» reports that it is opposed to the expansion of the grouping. It is learnt that New Delhi is yet to take a final decision on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's in-person attendance in the summit of the five-nation grouping from August 22 to 24. The summit is set to extensively deliberate on expansion of BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa).

NEW DELHI : The drug regulator has warned cough syrup manufacturers not to send samples of the same batch to multiple government-accredited testing laboratories at the same time. In the event of a drug maker found violating the rules, government labs will not test any of their samples, Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) Rajeev Raghuvanshi warned.

NEW DELHI : Electronic permits for goods shipments within and across states—the so-called e-way bills—inched up to 87.95 million in July, up from 86 million in June, suggesting continued momentum in economic activity in spite of heavy rains disrupting mobility in parts of North India. The number of permits raised in July under the GST regime for goods movement is the third highest on record, e-way bill data shows.

New Delhi: Stainless steel consumption in India grew by nearly 10% during the past fiscal year, reaching 4 million tonne, as per data unveiled by the Indian Stainless Steel Development Association (ISSDA). Data released by the industry body indicates that India's per capita stainless steel consumption advanced from 2.5 kg to 2.8 kg, driven by heightened demand for the eco-friendly metal in sectors such as Railways, process industries, and ABC (architecture, building and construction).

In a written reply in the Lok Sabha, the minister said, “During the two Road shows conducted, global trading companies like Trafigura, BP, SKE&C, Petrochina, GASP, Vopak, Geostock, Monnet, Hyundai, Gulf Energy, Natixis, Vitol, Glencore, DBS, KNOC, Lloyd’s Register, IC-Group, ANU Resources, Shell, Parson Brinkerhoff, Sweco AB, SKANSKA etc., evinced interest in participating in Phase II SPR project." The underground SPR storages, located in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh (1.33 MMT), Mangaluru (1.5MMT), and Padur, Karnataka (2.5 MMT), have a combined capacity of 5.33 million metric tonne (MMT) of crude oil.

New Delhi: The government is committed to driving the adoption of electric vehicles and will continue with the FAME (Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of (Hybrid &) Electric Vehicles) subsidy to bridge the price difference in EVs, said Tarun Kapoor, adviser, Prime Minister’s Office, said on Thursday. Speaking at the national conference on electric mobility organized by Assocham, Kapoor emphasized the importance of finding ways to bring down the price of EVs, as government subsidies cannot be permanent.

New Delhi: Gasoline consumption increased 19.7% during the June quarter compared to the same period of last year to a provisional assessment of 9.377 million tonne, minister of state in the ministry of petroleum and natural gas Rameswar Teli said. In a written reply in the Lok Sabha, the minister said, to meet the growing energy demands, Indian refineries presently have a refining capacity of 253.9 million tonnes per annum (MTPA).
