The Bill was passed by the Lok Sabha on 28 July. "Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw to move for leave to introduce a Bill to provide for the processing of digital personal data in a manner that recognises both the right of individuals to protect their personal data and the need to process such personal data for lawful purposes and for matters connected therewith or incidental thereto. Also to introduce the bill," the notification said.

New Delhi: The standing committee on communications and IT has said in its report on citizens data security and privacy, tabled in Parliament on Tuesday, that the digital personal data protection (DPDP) bill should be the main legislation for data handling and privacy and should be enacted into a law at the earliest to safeguard citizens' data and their privacy. “The Committee, in no uncertain words stress the urgent necessity for the early enactment of a robust and all-encompassing legislation that effectively safeguards citizens' data and privacy," it said.

NEW DELHI : The government is considering a proposal to allow existing advanced chemistry cell (ACC) battery storage projects to apply for unutilized capacity under the production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme for the sector, two people aware of the matter said. At a 24 July meeting, some industry executives proposed allowing brownfield projects to apply for the capacity not allotted to greenfield projects, according to the people cited above. Currently, only greenfield projects are eligible for the scheme.

NEW DELHI : Milk prices in India have surged 22% in three years, including 10% in the past year. According to Parshottam Rupala, Union minister for fisheries, animal husbandry, and dairying, prices of green fodder are declining, and milk prices are expected to stabilize after monsoon as fodder turns plentiful. In an interview, Rupala said while extreme weather conditions can damage crops, there is currently no alarming feed shortage, and in the unlikely situation of a shortage, states have reserves to fill the supply gap.

New Delhi: The Rajya Sabha on Tuesday passed the Mediation Bill 2021 and Multi State Cooperative Society Bill, which are aimed at institutionalising and promoting the process of mediation and strengthening co-operative societies. Both bills were passed with voice vote amid a walk out by opposition members, demanding a discussion on the violence in Manipur. The Mediation Bill, 2021 halves the maximum time for completing mediation proceedings to 180 days.

S&P Global said that India’s purchasing managers’ index (PMI) for manufacturing fell to 57.7 in July, down from 57.8 in June, and 58.7 in May. A figure of 50 separates expansion from contraction.

NEW DELHI : Cargos and containers full of rice are lying at Indian ports, unshipped after the government announced export restrictions with immediate effect last month. Though most cargos had obtained customs clearance before the directorate general of foreign trade put out the notification banning white rice exports on the evening of 20 July, as much as 200,000 tonnes of the grain are still lying at ports, including 5,000 tonnes at Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port in Kolkata.
