New Delhi: A parliamentary panel has called for immediate compensation to cyber fraud victims by financial institutions, saying this will go a long way in demonstrating steadfast commitment to consumer protection and will push these firm to bolster their security measures. The committee strongly believes that there should be an «automatic compensation system as devised by the RBI and it should be the financial institution's sole responsibility to immediately compensate the hapless customer, pending further investigation and final traceability of funds», the Standing Committee on Finance headed by BJP MP Jayant Sinha has recommended in its report.

New Delhi: In a fresh bid to revive Jet Airways (India) Ltd, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has extended the air operator certificate of the beleaguered airline until 3 September, even as it undergoes the corporate insolvency resolution process (CIRP). “DGCA has extended AOC in respect of Jet Airways for a period up to 03.09.2023 only for limited purpose of completing the ongoing CIRP," the regulator said in a statement. However, the airline will be required to undergo a re-certification process as per the established rules and show its adherence to the applicable regulatory requirements once again before it can resume flight services.

Airtel prepays part of spectrum dues worth ₹8,024 cr
NEW DELHI : Bharti Airtel Ltd prepaid ₹8,024 crore ahead of schedule to clear part of its deferred liabilities for the spectrum acquired in 2015 as part of a plan to save costs. “The said instalments had an interest rate of 10% and have been prepaid by Airtel, leveraging much lower cost financing available to it," the telco said in a statement on Monday, noting that the amount was paid to the department of telecommunications. Airtel continues to enjoy access to well-diversified sources of capital or financing, allowing it to have enhanced financial flexibility in its capital structure, including the optimized cost of financing using all opportunities for significant interest savings, like this prepayment, the carrier added.

New Delhi: The government has issued over 2 lakh challans or penalties on violators of the Cigarettes and other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA) 2003, which prohibits the advertisement of tobacco products and regulates its trade and commerce, production, supply and distribution, to reduce tobacco use. These penalties were imposed as they were found selling cigarettes and tobacco products to individuals below 18 years of age and selling tobacco items within close proximity to educational institutions.
