New Delhi: Domestic deliveries were the driving force for Tata Steel Limited in the first quarter of Fiscal Year 2024 (Q1 FY24) with an 18 per cent increase in domestic volumes Y-o-Y over key segments, said the steel company in a forward looking statement today.Provisional delivery volumes for the Indian vertical of the company stood at 4.8 million tons, an 18 percent Y-o-Y rise. NEW DELHI : The goods and services tax (GST) Council meeting next week will discuss tax relief on certain medicines, farm products, arthroplasty implants, and services such as satellite launches by private organizations, a person with direct knowledge of the matter said. A committee of officers that reviews proposals for tax rate changes, called the fitment committee, has recommended lowering the GST rates on unfried snack pellets to 5% from 18% and suggested that exemption from the 12% Integrated GST (IGST) could be considered when cancer medicine (dinutuximab/qarziba) is imported by individuals for personal use.

NEW DELHI : A meeting between Indian and French tax authorities on the sidelines of a recent G20 summit has set off alarm bells among foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) based in France, three people with direct knowledge of the matter said. The meeting, around potential tweaks to the double taxation avoidance agreement (DTAA) between India and France, has led to apprehension among foreign funds that India may soon renegotiate the treaty to eliminate the capital gains tax exemption. Currently, France and the Netherlands are the only major jurisdictions benefiting from a tax treaty with India that grants exemption from capital gains tax on share sales.

Manufacturing Goods transit strong despite June decline
NEW DELHI : Generation of e-way bills dipped marginally to 86.1 million last month compared to 88.2 million permits in May, indicating intra- and inter-state shipments of goods continued to be robust despite a slight moderation. Data from Goods and Services Tax Network (GSTN) which processes goods and services tax (GST) returns, showed that 56 million permits were raised for intra-state movement and 30 million permits for inter-state goods movement in June, against 56.7 million intra-state and 31.5 million inter-state e-way bills raised in May.

NEW DELHI : The Centre will devise a strategy to tap export markets for Indian coal as domestic production sets new records, Union minister of parliamentary affairs, coal and mines Pralhad Joshi said. New Delhi: The coal production from captive and commercial coal mines have been steadily increasing over the years, registering a 216 per cent growth in the last six years, Minister for Coal and Mines, Pralhad Joshi said Thursday.  In a tweet, minister Joshi highlighted that a total of 86 coal mines have been successfully auctioned under commercial coal mining, offering a potential annual revenue of ₹34,188 crore to various states across the country.  In a meeting with senior officials of the ministry of coal, the minister reviewed the performance of coal production from these mines and deliberated on strategies to further increase production by 39% in the current fiscal year.

Vivek Singh, FM's OSD to leave his position
New Delhi: Vivek Singh, the Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to the finance and corporate affairs minister Nirmala Sitharaman, will leave his position in personal grounds,  Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) said in a notification on Thursday.  "The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the proposal for curtailment of tenure of Shri Vivek Singh...wef 17.07.2023," DoPT said in a statement.  Singh was appointed OSD to the finance minister in January 2021.  Prior to this position, he was working as Additional Private Secretary with Sitharaman.
