Power generation increases 2% in June amid growing demand
New Delhi: Power generation in India rose 2.21% in June as demand scaled new highs during the month marked by soaring temperatures. Data from the Central Electricity Authority (CEA) showed power generation rose to 127.16 billion units or 127167.28 Gigawatt hour (Gwh) last month from 124.42 billion units a year earlier. Thermal power generation rose 3.39% to 109.20 billion units while hydro power generation increased 1.35% to 14.13 billion units.

CBI arrests three in Balasore triple train crash
New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), on Friday, arrested three people in connection with the Balasore train accident in Odisha that left around 300 people dead and injured more than 1,000. The investigation agency arrested the then SSE (Senior Section engineer) Arun Kumar, Section engineer Mohammad Amir Khan and technician Pappu Kumar under Sections 304 and 201 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Section 153 of Railways Act, 1989, CBI said in a statement. The accident took place when a passenger train hit a stationary freight train, jumped off the tracks and hit another passenger train coming from the opposite direction.
