Rajya Sabha MP Sushmita Dev to go on hunger strike against EC's Delimitation draft on Monday

Election Commission of India's Delimitation draft in Silchar on Monday. The 10-hours-long hunger strike will start at 9am on Monday and the TMC leader will be accompanied by her party members. Dev said that they want the chief minister of Assam Himanta Biswa Sarma to listen to the people Barak Valley and write to the ECI about it.

«He is not chief minister of one party or a particular area. People of Barak Valley also voted him to this position and it is his duty to listen to voices commons living in Barak Valley.” Several organisations in Barak valley have opposed the draft delimitation proposal. Eleven political parties ask the Election Commission to clarify why in case of Assam for the same delimitation process 2001 census data are used though 2011 census data for Assam are available.

This deviation in case of Assam needs clarification. These parties went to New Delhi to submit representation. In the memorandum these parties stated,» The delimitation process was deferred in three other north eastern states and J&K in 2008 considering the situation in those states.

However, the Election Commission of India has recently completed the delimitation in Jammu and Kashmir using 2011 census data, which is normal. But we request you to give justification why in case of Assam for the same delimitation process 2001 census data are used though 2011 census data for Assam are available. This deviation in case of Assam needs clarification".
