New Delhi: India has set an ambitious target to produce 5 million metric tonne of green hydrogen by 2030, with 70% allocated for exports and the remaining 30% for domestic consumption, said Bhupinder Singh Bhalla, Secretary, ministry of new and renewable energy. The announcement was made during a press conference held alongside the International Conference on Green Hydrogen (ICGH-2023) to discuss India’s commitment to the development and deployment of green hydrogen.
In response to a question about demand projections for green hydrogen by 2030, Bhalla stated that India aims to produce 5 million metric tonnes of green hydrogen by 2030, with 70% earmarked for exports and the remaining 30% for domestic consumption. “Five priority sectors, including fertilizer, refinery, long-haul mobility (with pilots already in place in industries such as steel, shipping, and long-haul transportation), have been identified for green hydrogen applications," he added.
Bhalla highlighted the comprehensive coverage of the ICGH-2023 conference, which encompassed various aspects of the green hydrogen ecosystem. The conference aimed to learn from the experiences of other countries leading in the field of green hydrogen and explore opportunities for collaboration.
The conference also focused on skill development and employment opportunities in the green hydrogen sector. Panelists emphasized the need to upskill and reskill the existing workforce to meet the evolving demands of the industry.
