All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) has filed a case in the Supreme Court against the draft delimitation proposal of Assembly and Parliamentary Constituencies in Assam. The case was filed by Katlicherra MLA and vice president of All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) Suzam Uddin Laskar. Two constituencies Katlicherra legislative assembly constituency of Hailakandi district and Patherkandi of Karimganj district were dropped in the draft delimitation proposal released by the ECI last month.
Asom Jatiya Parishad president Lurinjyoti Gogoi has also challenged the draft delimitation in the Supreme Court last week. He also informed the court that heavy resentment has been created in minority dominated Karimganj, Goalpara and Barpeta districts after the release of the draft delimitation proposal. “AIUDF filed a case in the Supreme Court on 08/07/2023 to stop the delimitation process in Assam.
Case No. SCIN01-00317-2023, signed by Suzam Uddin Laskar, MLA & Vice President AIUDF Central Committee, on behalf of the party,” AIUDF tweeted. Rajya Sabha MP and Trinamool Congress leader Sushmita Dev on Monday staged a 10-hours hunger strike in protest against the Election Commission of India’s (ECI) proposed delimitation draft.
Dev expressed her displeasure in a letter to Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal on July 7, stating her reservations about the delimitation draft. The Election Commission of India (ECI) published a draft delimitation proposal for Assam suggestions and Objections are invited till July 11, 2023. The draft proposes a parliamentary seat named Kaziranga.
