Trump made the announcement on Truth Social, saying, “I am pleased to announce that the Former ICE Director, and stalwart on Border Control, Tom Homan, will be joining the Trump Administration, in charge of our Nation’s Borders (‘The Border Czar’), including, but not limited to, the Southern Border, the Northern Border, all Maritime, and Aviation Security.” Trump added, “There’s nobody better at policing and controlling our Borders” and that Homan “will be in charge of all Deportation of Illegal Aliens back to their Country of Origin.” Homan, a key figure during Trump’s first term, led “zero tolerance” immigration enforcement, including policies that separated children from families at the border, leading to widespread criticism. He also contributed to Project 2025, a conservative policy blueprint, though Trump distanced himself from that project during his campaign. National Board of Wild Life (NBWL) has revoked the permission granted to a temple trust to use 0.35 hectares of land inside a Gujarat wildlife sanctuary. It has also set up a panel to frame protocol for green permissions to religious institutions in forest areas. The move follows concerns raised by a wild life board member over allowing 'religious use' of the sanctuary land. In view of several 'sacred caves and religious places' in forests and wildlife areas and 'mentions in religious texts', a panel has been set up on the issue, as per the minutes of the October 9 meeting of the standing committee chaired by environment minister Bhupender Yadav. The panel will formulate a standard operating procedure for such religious bodies, prescribe applications and documents required to be submitted along with applications seeking recommendations of the standing committee — in accordance with the provisions of the Wild Life (Protection) Act, 1972, as per the minutes.

Assam government on Thursday said it has approved an oil exploration project near Hoollongapar Gibbon Wildlife Sanctuary by the Vedanta group and the proposal has been forwarded to the Centre for consideration. Replying to a query by Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly, Debabrata Saikia, Forest Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary said the State Board of Wildlife (SBWL) has approved a proposal to check the possibility of oil exploration around 13 km from the sanctuary. «We have forwarded it to the National Board of Wildlife (NBWL) and they will make a final decision… Before the final approval, we will discuss with experts,» the minister said. Saikia criticised the government's decision and said environmentalists have opposed the idea of giving oil exploration permission in and around the forest.
