Think your office coffee mug is safe? It might be full of germs, finds study
Dr. Gerba's groundbreaking study, published in the Journal of Dairy, Food, and Environmental Sanitation, highlighted the role that communal kitchen sponges and dishcloths play in spreading harmful bacteria across office kitchen surfaces. «Coliform bacteria were present on 20 per cent of the coffee cups before wiping, but after using a dishcloth or sponge, 100 per cent of the cups tested positive for bacteria,» he explained. He also noted that while no E. coli was found on the cups prior to being wiped down, 20 per cent tested positive for the bacterium afterward.

Third Eye: Secret plot or fiction? Clash amid loyalty shifts
Sanjay Raut recently alleged that Deputy CM Eknath Shinde held a meeting with Home Minister Amit Shah, during which Shinde reportedly expressed grievances against Devendra Fadnavis. Despite the meeting allegedly having only two attendees, Saamana, the newspaper edited by Raut, published the purported conversation verbatim. Raut aimed to suggest that Shinde was scheming against Fadnavis. However, Fadnavis later dismissed Raut's claims, accusing the latter of trying to rival scriptwriters Salim and Javed in crafting fiction.

The IT-BT and Rural Development and Panchayat Raj (RDPR) departments will host a ‘Karnataka Rural Water and Sanitation Sustainability Summit’ on October 29 and have invited startups to provide solutions. The event will feature a pitching session where selected startups can present their ideas, with winners receiving a minimum funding of Rs 25 lakhs. Bindeshwar Pathak: 'Toilet Man of India' who founded Sulabh and pioneered public sanitation
Bindeshwar Pathak came to be known as the "Toilet Man of India" long before the Swachch Bharat Mission made toilets a part of public discourse, even as he was often ridiculed, including by his father-in-law, for the work he was doing. Pathak famously recalled once how his father-in-law felt that his daughter's life has been ruined as he cannot tell anyone what his son-in-law did for a living. Pathak, 80, died on Tuesday after a cardiac arrest soon after unfurling the national flag.

Odisha floods: People face shortage of drinking water as inundated roads halt tankers
Odisha floods said they were facing an acute shortage of potable water and many were forced to drink floodwater after boiling it, while others feared consumption of it may cause water-borne diseases. The government, on the other hand, said it was sending water tankers to the flood-hit areas but those affected said the vehicles were not able to reach them as roads have been inundated in the deluge. Though the water levels in major rivers have come down, 75 more villages came under the grip of the deluge. A total of 6.24 lakh people have been affected in 11 districts, according to an official report on Sunday. The affected people have taken shelter in nearby schools which are surrounded by floodwaters. «My house and tube wells in our area remain submerged in floodwaters. We do not have access to potable drinking water. We are boiling floodwater and drinking it,» said 68-year-old Kalandi Barik of Santhapada village in Rajnagar block of Kendrapara district.
